Voglia di sagre?/How to find traditional festivals in Italy

Are you visiting Italy this summer? Do you want to partecipate to a traditional festival? Here are two links to find them all over the country! You can do researches by both date and region. The bad news is that they are only in italian, but you can use google tranlate or ask me (if I'm not on holyday) :D

Shopping e premio/Shopping and award

Lately I have a tremendous desire for going shopping that I can't control. Maybe it is because it's a neurotic and quite unlucky period: I'm always in a hurry, there are still many things to do before leaving, the Hairy Half has been gone a week and I had lice (but aren't them transmitted in particular by children? I don't hang around with any child!). Essentially on Saturday in Sinigaglia open air market I bought two extremely granny-like blouses (Siobhàn tried to stop me, but she didn't manage to do it) and a bit mori that I love. I paid 3.3 euros each.

Instead yesterday, after 200 anti lice treatments and a trip to the beautician, to console myself I bought ta pair of mint green leggings (which I don't know when I'll wear since it is hot and I'm perfectly shaved), that I wanted from some time to try the total pastel look. I bought them at Emporio Lima in Milan, a shop which was full of dresses from white to beige with lots of lace, very very mori. Unfortunately, they costed from 15 to 24 euros, but I want them so much! I hope to find them discounted during sales...
Additionally Ade gave me her super cool old brown suede bag, but I forgot to photograph it ^^'

Grazie mille ^W^

Even Scarabocchio girl gave me a gift, the Liebster prize! Thank you ^W^

Cucchiaini del gelato-->Orecchini estivi /Icecream plastic spoons-->Summer earrings

ATTENTION, THIS POST CAN CAUSE PANIK ATTACKS TO SOBER PERSONS XD

I wanted to make ice cream spoons, those made of colored transparent plastic, into earrings from some time, but didn't know how to puncture without breaking them. It took the genius of the Hairy Half: use a red hot needle!
Warning: the process releases dioxin that is not good for the health and you risk getting burned. But it works great!

Facilissimo e d'effetto!

Once you made the hole just connect the spoons to the hooks with a piece of wire. Easy and sensational!

Just to stay on the icecram thema: at the end, following your suggestions, I decided to hem the masochist ice cream shirt with mint lace :D

Last post of the London series, finally!
I'll tell you about of the place I liked most, the Natural History Museum *W* Even the building itself is beautiful: in Victorian style with a gothic something, has really existing animals instead of gargoyles both inside and outside and inside has bas-reliefs with every kind of animals, as well as a complete skeleton of Diplodocus, Dippy, who is the mascot of the museum.

Outside, in the beautiful green space around the museum, we found an exhibition of the most beautiful photos of animals of the year and a wonderful fossilized tree trunk so ancient  that made me shudder *_*

The museum is divided into several sections: land animals, marine animals, marine fossils...at first glance not easy to figure out where to go and so I got lost (note the coolness of the theca about the woolly rhinoceros, now extinct). Unfortunately because of the crowd and my brother who was bored to death I couldn't see it all, but I am quite sure that it's worth it!

Questo pesce mi somiglia...

This fish resembles me...

I was not satisfied of the part about dinosaurs: I had to spend an hour of time quequing and once inside more than valuable finds there was an exposition clearly designed for children, with a few pieces, but with a good interaction (there was also roaring robot tyrannosaurus). Given the queque and the crowd inside is not worth it unless you're with people aged 11 years or below.

But it had one of the most interesting theories about the disappearance of the dinosaurs that I have ever encountered XD

But the main reason because I wanted to visit the museum were the skeletons of ichthyosaur discovered by Mary Anning, that I thought to find in the dinosaur section, but which were in the marine fossils one. It was really exciting to see them! In particular, the fossil of the second picture, which is kept at the exact moment of giving birth! ç_ç

Collana stregonesca/Witch necklace

Difficulty: easy
Materials: glass bottle (you can also use those for medicines), metallic wire, needle, pliers, thin chain (you can use a ready-made necklace, various types of wire, or ask the hardware store), things to put in the bottle, glue, optional pendants

XD
Ho tolto l'etichetta dopo averla lasciato in acqua qualche tempo.

I searched for a lot of time for glass bottles to use to make necklaces, but they either costed too much or weren't good for other reasons. The solution came from a friend of mine, who has to drink iron integrators and handed me one of the bottles in which they are sold. It's quite big, but it was free and plus when have I ever been a sober person? XD
I removed the label after I left it in water for some time. Then I decided what to put inside. The idea was to give it an aura of witchcraft, so I thought of bones, fake blood, etc., but for various reasons, nothing seemed to go well. In the end I had a flash, and I decided I to use an old acorn and lavender and other flowers that I picked up and left to dry a few days.

I pulled out the extra part of the top, I pierced it with a needle and painted with nail polish. Then I put the wire into the hole, turning the end so that it won't unthread and then I put the top back in place, securing it with the PVA glue.

I already had a piece of thin chain bought at an hardware store (much cheaper than in shops of art and craft!), so I cut the desired length, and making sure it still slided on my head, I locked the two ends with the piece of iron wire that came out of the bottle. Then I added a butterfly pendant on the chain.

Niente male, eh?

Not bad, isn't it? I had a lot of compliments ^^ And the contents of the bottle may vary depending on the style you want.
But be careful with liquids because the bottle could always open and make a mess on your clothes! And be careful to secure it well because being glass if it falls and breaks it is a disaster.

In this period I won two more awards! One is the 100% reliable Blog award by Angie of Lady cupcake (sorry if the public the news so late ^^''') and the other is the Liebster prize from Vale by Le idee della Vale. Thanks girls, you made me really happy :DDD Again I won't answer the questions etc. because next Monday I'll leave and I'm really busy with preparations and friends. Excuse me, but you know, summer is a stagnation time for a blog.

Modificare i vestiti con i centrini/Clothes alteration with doilies

I already modified this shirt, obtained from a swap party, with some lace around the neckline, but it didn't convince me, so I unsewed the lace and started over using a doily, a ribbon I got from another swap and a button. This time I'm in love with the result and I'd really really like to wear it, but long sleeves with hot weather would be terrifying. Why do I do this kind of projects in the summer?

I liked it so much I made a coordinate pin-hair clip and I sewed another doily on a dress I was getting tired of because it was too shapeless and anonymous. I am very happy with the result, and fortunately I can wear these things even with the heat!

Mantello elfico/Elfic mantle

Finally I can tell you my secret sewing project for the Metalfest: an elfic mantle!!!Difficulty: easy (basic sewing skills needed)
Materials: fabric, buttons or snap fasteners, necessary for sewing, decorations (as you like)

Basically the idea is the same for my tutorial to make a caplet. Start with a rectangle of fabric (keeping away extra fabric for the hood). Drape it around your shoulders. For the caplet I uniformed the length of the various parts, but in this case I liked the mantle longer on the back, so I left the fabric rectangular.

Orlate tutti i lati tranne quello superiore.

Hem all sides except the upper one. Fold in half the upper side and at the center cut out a semi-circle which will be the space for the neck. Calculate two centimeters more for the hem and check if the hood can closed well in front. Better to abound in case of doubt. Do the hem of the fourth side.

The hood will consist of two big triangles with the long sides sewn. On one side, however, you will make a cut perpendicular to the short side, which will be the point of union with the neck. In fact, this part should be half (because it's double) the length of the circumference of the neck on the body of the mantle.
Sew the two parts together.

Since my hood is made of slippery fabric, it doesn't stay on, so I added a pendant as a counterweight. I'm also thinking of a bell on the point of the hood.

Now just add some buttons on the front (I chose snap fasteners because they seem safer on a material that tends to fraying) and the mantle is finished! I love it, but having failed to wear it at Metalfest I don't know when to put it! Perhaps at some typical medieval festival or for the Celtic New Year festival in October. It would be perfect in a witch, elfic or even mori outfit, but it isn't exactly daily wear...
