Sales: H&M, Terranova, Stradivarius, Tally Weijl

This year I contributed a little to promote a consumer and wasteful society with some summer sales shopping.
At Terranova I saw several nice things at very low prices. I tried a black dress and a short striped t-shirt that costed about 6€ each, but the dress had a too wide neckline and slid from my shoulders and the t-shirt was made to be tight fitting while I would have preferred something larger, so I did not buy anything.

I bought a cute striped shirt, broad and rather short, at Stradivarius for 6€. I also really liked a t-shirt with a watermelon of the same price, but I already have a similar one (made by me) and I restrained myself.

My mother bought me a set of Tally Weijl earrings with little stars and sparkly moons that I liked a lot (it costed 2.10€).

As usual the place that gave me more satisfaction was H&M. I tried on two dresses on sale (for around 6 and 10€), a pair of shorts (about 6€) and a dress not on sale (10€) that I did not buy because I tought they didn't fit me well (except the shorts that I didn't buy me for the pattern).

In the kids section I tried on a cute dress with a feathers pattern that was made of too light fabric as the lines of my underwear were pretty visible and a cute striped lace dress (7€) that I did not buy because I already have something similar.

Instead I bought high waisted shorts with pockets, in the same pattern of the dress I had already bought (and for the same price, about 10€). I also bought sandals with laces on sale for 7€ to finally show the world that I have toes, a scrunchie sets for 1 € and a light sweatshirt with a beautiful astronomical design that I paid only 2€ because it was the last piece.

Portugal day 5: Cacilhas, Cascais

Following Ciccola's advice, we dedicated the fifth and last day of stay in Lisbon to a day-trip to Cacilhas and Cascais, two little towns near the capital.
In the morning we went to Cacilhas, located across river Tagus. From the station of Cais do Sodre we took the ferry, using the Viva Viagem card.

Once there, we took a tram for a few stops and then we walked for a bit to get to the Cristo Rei, a 110-meter high statue of Christ based on that of the Sugar Loaf in Rio de Janeiro. Inside the base of the statue there is a chapel and an elevator (to get up you have to pay a fee) that leads to the upper platform.

The best thing (of course after the phosphorescent angels for sale at the store) was the breathtaking panorama on April 25 bridge, which is almost identical to the Golden Gate in San Francisco (in fact it was built by the same company). The current name comes from the 1974 Carnation Revolution, before it was called Salazar Bridge.

To go back to the harbor we tried to take the most convenient bus 101, which stopped right outside the entrance to the sanctuary, but we lost it so we ended up doing the same route we did before. Before leaving I wanted to see up close the little red lighthouse of Cacilhas.

As we were in Cais do Sodre, we ate at Mercado da Ribeira again. The Hairy Half, to make me try the garlic rustic chips I wanted, took the black pork neck hamburger at Alexandre Silva no Mercado. The fries were delicious, the burger unexpectedly wasn't so savoury. I got a really good sandwich with goat cheese, honey and rosemary, but for 7€ it was far too expensive as it wasn't huge like the one the Hairy Half took the day before at the same price and it was served only with a side of salad. It was the least satisfactory meal we had at the market, which is saying something, since it's was really good.

After lunch we went to Cascais, leaving from Cais do Sodre again, this time from the train station. Once again, instead of buying ticket it was enough to pass the Viva Viagem on the reader. The journey took about half an hour.

Cascais seemed us a pretty and lively town, with narrow streets, shops, hordes of happy tourists and especially the ocean. We went to the main church of the city, the Assuncao, but we found it closed.

So we continued to Santa Marta Lighthouse Museum in Rua do Farol. On the official site I read that the entrance was free (and there is still written so!), so we walked boldly into it. We were immediately blocked by a guardian who explained us that it was necessary to buy a ticket, with which we could also visit Casa de Santa Maria. Obviously, the ticket office was at the house, that we passed going there. We went back and the ticket lady tried to sell us a combined ticket for all the museums in the neighborhood, but since they would close within half an hour (at 17, earlier than in Lisbon), we preferred to avoid it. We paid the standard 3(these were correctly indicated by the website). Only after we had bought the tickets, the ticket lady told us that the lighthouse was closed! I had already decided to kill her when she proposed to guide us in our visit to the house.
It is a building dating back to 1902, designed by Raul Lino for Jorge O'Neil, an aristocrat linked to the tobacco industry, which also commissioned S. Sebastião tower and the current Condes de Castro Guimarães Library-Museum. Around 1917, the property was sold to the architect's older brother, who, for the new house, bought seventeenth-century tiles and a wooden ceiling painting attributed to Antonio de Oliveira Bernardes. In 1925, the house was purchased by the Espírito Santo family, which hosted celebrities as the Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg and her family, the Counts of Barcelona, Umberto II of Savoy, and the Dukes of Windsor.

The house was really nice and plus our impromptu guide showed us a small fluffy gull who had its nests on the rocks just outside.

After visiting the house we went to the lighthouse museum, which was nice, but nothing amazing, especially considering that the real lighthouse was closed. We would have liked to go to the Marechal Carmona Park where there was the Museu Condes de Castro Guimaraes too, but the closing time was approaching and we were not so sure that it was free as stated on the site.

So we continued on the waterfront until we got to Boca do Inferno, a rock formation famous for the moan like sound the waves produce on it. When we visited it the sea was very calm, but it was by no means less spectacular.

Dopo vari tentativi siamo riusciti a immergerci completamente e a fare qualche bracciata e ci siamo sentiti molto eroici.

We returned to the port and decided to stop at one of the beaches we saw to swim in the ocean. The fine sandy beach was full of tourists and there were several people swimming, so we boldly walked into water. We had to run out because it was ice cold! After several attempts we were able to fully immerse ourselves and to do a few strokes and we felt very heroic.

As it was already late, after having dried and warmed up a little bit in the sun, we took the train and went back to Cais do Sodre. We took this opportunity to eat for the third time in a row at Mercado da Ribeira (yes, we loved it) and it was the absolute best.
The Hairy Half took an incredible fish and chips with handmade tartar sauce. The fish were cod sticks, that under the super crisp breading melted in the mouth. The matchstick fries had the peel and were perfect and the sauce was fabulous.
After a day in the sun and the swim in the ocean I wanted something warm, so I chose the rice with wakame seaweed and salmon tataki by Marlene Vieira (11€). It was creamy and delicious and the various flavors armonized perfectly, it was one of the most delicious and original risotto of my life.
I also took again the ikura temaki by Confraria do Sushi (5.90€).
The Hairy Half decided to abandon the traditional dark beer (I took it instead) to ask for a lemonade. He got it served with mint and small spherical red jellies, it was very good.
We ended this perfect dinner with a shot of Ginja d'Obidos drunk in a chocolate cup.
