Artigiano in fiera 2016

Anche quest'anno sono andata all'Artigiano in fiera di Milano, che mi piace tantissimo. Mi è parso meglio organizzato degli altri anni, ma forse perché quando ci sono andata io c'era meno gente del solito.

Questo genere di fiera tende sempre un po' a ripetersi e ad avere le stesse cose, ma ho visto qualche novità interessante.

This year I went Again to the artisan fair of Milan, which I really like. It seemed better organized than in other years, but maybe because when I went there was less people than usual.

This kind of fairs tends to always have the same things and to repeat itself, but I saw some interesting news.

Purtroppo, ho avuto un problema di lavoro e sono dovuta scappare subito dopo pranzo (con una favolosa croque baguette con chevre e salame piccante, un gusto che non avevo mai visto prima), quindi ho visto solo il padiglione dell'artigianato dal mondo e un pezzettino di Europa. Che tristezza!

Unfortunately, I had a work related problem and I had to flee immediately after lunch (with a fabulous croque baguette with chevre and chorizo, a taste that I had never seen before), so I only saw the world pavilion and a piece the Europe one. How sad!

Sono comunque riuscita a fare qualche acquisto (ovviamente non i regali di Natale di cui avrei avuto bisogno, solo cose per me).

Nel padiglione India ho comprato una sciarpa color zafferano con stampa a oche e un chiama angeli a 1€ ciascuno.

I have still managed to do some purchases (of course not the Christmas presents I needed, only things for me).

In the India part I bought a saffron-colored scarf with a geese pattern and an angel caller charm for 1€ each.

In Germania ho comprato una mini stella di carta in 3D che si apre a ventaglio da appendere all'albero per 1€.

In Germany I bought a mini 3D paper star that fans out for 1 € to hang it on my Chrismas tree.

Ma l'acquisto migliore l'ho fatto in Cina dove ho comprato dei calzini favolosi (molto simili a quelli che continuo ossessivamente a salvarmi su Pinterest): un paio natalizio caldissimo con orsetti, un paio con casette, alberi e fiocchi di neve, un paio con dei pesci e un paio geniale con un motivo a calzini.

But I  did the best purchase in China where I bought some fabulous socks (very similar to the ones that I keep obsessively to save on Pinterest): a warm Christmas pair with teddy bears, a pair with houses, trees and snowflakes, a pair with fishes and a funny pair with a socks pattern.

Mercatini di Natale + Festa della scuola giapponese/Christmas markets + Japanese school open day

Sabato scorso sono andata con mia madre e la mia Pelosa Metà alla chiesa protestante di via Marco de Marchi 9, a Milano, che ospitava il primo mercatino di Natale finlandese e il diciottesimo tedesco della città.

Evidentemente l'evento aveva avuto una discreta pubblicità perché all'ingresso c'era una coda che non finiva più.

Last Saturday I went with my mother and my Hairy Half to the Protestant church in Marco De Marchi street 9, in Milan, which hosted the first Finnish and the eighteenth German Christmas market of the city.

Evidently, the event had a really good advertising because at the entrance there was a queque all around the building.

Noi abbiamo visitato prima le bancarelle di alimentari all'esterno. Ci siamo lasciati conquistare dal vin brulè venduto per 5€ in una tazza natalizia che una volta bevuto il vino si poteva tenere.

Il vino era molto buono, ma non artigianale. Era il Christkindl Glühwein che un paio di anni fa avevo trovato in vendita alla Lidl (trovate la mia recensione qui, se lo trovate ve lo consiglio). Data l'affluenza, alle 16:30 circa le tazze del 2016 erano già finite e la bancarella ha iniziato a vendere quelle del 2015.

Ho visto in vendita anche biscotti e dolci vari, bretzel e conserve. C'erano delle bancarelle che servivano wurstel e crauti.

To start we visited the food stalls outside. We were won over by the mulled wine sold for 5€ in a Christmas mug that once you drank the wine you could keep.

The wine was very good, but not homemade. It was the Christkindl Glühwein that I found on sale at Lidl a couple of years ago (you can find my review here, I recommend it if you find it). Given the turnout, at about 16:30 the 2016 cups of were already sold out and the stand started selling the 2015 ones.

I saw also stalls selling cookies and various pastries, pretzels and preserves. There were stalls that served hot dogs and sauerkraut.

Mia madre ha comprato 3 biglietti della lotteria (per un totale di 3€), ma non ha vinto niente. Però come consolazione ci hanno regalato una confezione gigante di Mentos alla fragola.

My mother bought three lottery tickets (for a total of 3€), but did not win anything. But as a consolation they gave us a giant pack of strawberry Mentos.

Per entrare in chiesa, dove c'erano altre bancarelle, c'era una coda lunghissima e molto lenta all'ingresso anteriore. Per fortuna si poteva entrare anche dalla parte delle bancarelle alimentari.
La chiesa era molto sobria, ma carina. Le bancarelle erano poche e non particolarmente ricche, come è anche sensato per un mercatino parrocchiale. Non ho nemmeno visto prodotti tipici veramente difficili da trovare in Italia (anche se ovviamente con la folla potrei essermi persa qualcosa).

In definitiva direi che era un normale mercatino parrocchiale, anche piuttosto carino, ma che aveva ricevuto troppa pubblicità o aveva fatto una comunicazione sbagliata perché era arrivata troppa gente rispetto agli spazi, che fra l'altro si aspettava un mercatino decisamente più grande e fornito.

To enter the church, where there were other stalls, there was a very long and very slow queque at the front entrance. Fortunately, you could also enter from the side of the food stalls.
The church was very simple, but nice. The stalls were few and not particularly rich, as is understable for a Parish market. I didn't see local products difficult to find in Italy (though obviously with the crowd I might have missed something).
In conclusion I would say that it was a normal parish market, quite nice, but that received too much advertising or did a wrong communication because there were too many people for the spaces, people who among other things expected a much larger and better supplied market.

La domenica sono andata con la mia amica Siobahn all'open day della scuola giapponese di Milano. C'era tantissima gente come al solito, ma almeno quest'anno non ha piovuto.

Siamo arrivate presto per cui siamo riuscite a prendere quattro takoyaki (5€) e un piatto di udon in brodo (6€) senza fare file davvero apocalittiche.

On Sunday I went with my friend Siobahn to the open day of the Japanese school of Milan. There was a lot of people as usual, but at least this year it did not rain.

We got there early so we were able to take four takoyaki (5€) and a bowl of udon (6€) without apocalyptic queques.

Dopo mangiato siamo andate a fare un giro nei vari laboratori e al mercatino dell'handmade e dell'usato. C'erano cose carinissime a prezzi più che accettabili, ma ho finito per svenarmi con dei gioielli fatti a mano davvero adorabili (anche i pacchetti sono stupendi, un'idea da copiare!). Due sono dei regali di Natale e uno è per me... ma lo aprirò a Natale perché ho speso più di quanto avrei dovuto e quindi ho deciso che è il mio regalo per me.

After lunch we went for a tour of the various workshops and of the handmade and flea markets. There were a lot of cute things than acceptable price, but I ended up paying a lot for some really adorable handmade jewelry (even the packets are wonderful, an idea to copy!). Two are Christmas presents and one is for me... but I will open it on Christmas because I spent more than I should have and so I decided it's my gift to me.

V-chan mi ha fatto un sacco di regali: una borsa di mamegoma (le foche ciccione della San-X) con dentro un bastoncino di zucchero, una bacchetta allungabile di Sailor Mercury, un portachiavi a forma di Rirakkuma fatto di pane (che ho già attaccato alla borsa), dei foglietti con dei personaggi carini, due matite e la gomma di Monokoro Boo, la coppia di porcellini della San-X e gomme a forma di pochi, insalata confezionata, orsetti e racchetta da ping-pong. Ovviamente non le userò mai, sono troppo carine.

V-chan gave me a lot of gifts: a bag of Mamegoma (the fat seals by San-X) with inside a candy cane, a Sailor Mercury extendable stick, a bread Rirakkuma keychain (that I already hanged to my bag), notes cute characters, two Monokoro Boo, the couple of pigs by San-X, pencils and rubber and erasers in the shape of pochi, packaged salad, teddy bears and table tennis racket. Obviously I'll never use them, they are too cute.

La mia amica E. mi ha regalato dei carinissimi orecchini natalizi fatti da lei che penso che metterò tutto il tempo il prossimo Dicembre.

My friend E. gave me some cute Christmas earrings she made that I think I'll wear all the time next December.

La mia amica Jules mi ha regalato una bustina con tantissime tasche utile sia per i viaggi, sia per non dimenticarsi cose fondamentali quando si cambia borsa (cosa che io faccio sempre...).

My friend Jules gave me a pouch with lots of pockets useful both for travelling and for not forgetting basic things when changing bag (which I always do...).

La mia amica Bianca è stata di recente a Berlino e mi ha portato un sacco di regali carinissimi presi da Wertstück Flickli, un negozio specializzato in toppe: una toppa a volpe (credo la stirerò sulla mia giacca di jeans), un quadernino con una volpe e un coniglio e una spilla con una volpe.

My friend Bianca recently went to Berlin and brought me a lot of cute gifts bought at Wertstück Flickli, a shop specialized in patches: a fox patch (I think I'll iron it on my denim jacket), a notebook with a fox and a rabbit and a fox pin.

Mia nonna materna, per Natale ha regalato a me e alla mia Pelosa metà delle gelatine, uno straccio-calendario 2016 e un cesto con dei cantucci al cioccolato, dei canestrelli, un croccante, un panettone e delle altre gelatine.

My maternal grandmother for Christmas gave to me and to my Hairy jellies, a rag-2016 calendar, and a basket with two kinds of biscuits, a peanut brittle, a panettone and more jellies.

Mia zia mi ha regalato due paia di calze di Calzedonia Kids.

My aunt gave me two pairs of socks by Calzedonia Kids.

Soul Kitchen

Soul Kitchen è un film tedesco del 2009 diretto da Fatih Akın, che ha vinto il premio della giuria al festival di Venezia di quell'anno.

E' stato scritto dal regista insieme all'attore protagonista Adam Bousdoukos.

Racconta la storia di Zinos Kazantzakis, un giovane di origine greca che gestisce un ristorante, il Soul Kitchen. Le difficoltà e la storia del ristorante si intrecciano con le vite delle persone che lo frequentano: il fratello di Zinos, l'ex galeotto Ilias, la fidanzata di Zinos, Nadine, Lucia, la cameriera, il cuoco Shayn, il gruppo punk rock che suona lì ogni tanto, il vecchio marinaio che lavora alla sua barca nel retro, ecc.

E' una commedia venata di dramma, che racconta la storia di persone che lottano per rendere le loro vite degne di essere vissute. I personaggi sono tutti interessanti, bene studiati e ben costruiti (e il protagonista secondo me è un bel tocco di manzo).
Pur mostrando soprattutto vite di periferia, non è un film che fa della vera e propria critica sociale, ma è anche molto diverso dalle solite commedie hollywoodiane. Sono mostrate realtà difficili, come la prigione, la malattia senza assicurazione, il tradimento... ma l'amore unito a una certa comicità assurda, che diverte senza far ridere a voce alta, riporta il film alla leggerezza.
Lo consiglio con una precauzione: nonostante non sia un film politico per il suo punto di vista su case occupate, immigrazioni e prigione, rischiate di non apprezzarlo se avete idee politiche piuttosto conservatrici.

Soul Kitchen is a 2009 German film directed by Fatih Akın, which won the Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival of the same year.
It was written by the director and the starring actor, Adam Bousdoukos.
It tells the story of Zinos Kazantzakis, a young man of Greek origin who runs a restaurant, Soul Kitchen. The difficulties and the history of the restaurant are intertwined with the lives of the people who hang out at it: Zinos's brother, the ex-con Ilias, Zinos's girlfriend, Nadine, Lucia, the waitress, the cook Shayn, the punk rock group that plays there every now and then, the old sailor working on his boat in the back, etc.
It's a comedy tinged with drama, which tells the story of people struggling to make their lives worth living. The characters are all interesting, well designed and well built (and the protagonist in my opinion is quite a hottie).
Despite it shows mainly suburban lives, it is not a film that makes real social criticism, but it is also very different from the usual Hollywood comedies. It shows difficult realities, such as the prison, the disease without insurance, betrayal... but love joined with some absurd humor, funny even if not as much as to make people laugh out loud, brings the film to the comedy side.
I recommend it with a caution: although it is not a political film for its point of view on squats, immigration and prison, you might not appreciate it if you have rather conservative political views.
