Come avere una cover per smartphone sempre diversa (e foglie e pettirossi)

Il mio vecchio cellulare mi stava lasciando, così mio marito me ne ha comprato un altro come regalo anticipato dei 30 anni.

Stavolta ho optato per una cover trasparente. L'ho scelta per provare una nuova idea per avere un cellulare sempre diverso: infilare fra lo smartphone e la cover un disegno.

In questo caso ne ho fatto apposta uno a tema autunnale. Mi piacerebbe anche provare foglie e fiori secchi.

My old cell phone was breaking down, so my husband bought me another as an early 30-year-old gift.

This time I choose a transparent cover. I wanted it to try a new idea to have an ever changin mobile phone: to insert a drawing between the smartphone and the cover.

In this case, I did an autumnal themed one. I would also like to try dried leaves and flowers.

In questo periodo sono anche riuscita a fare due paia di orecchini con la shrink plastic, uno con delle foglie e uno con degli uccellini.

During this time I also managed to make two pairs of earrings with shrink plastic, one with leaves and one with birds.

Halloween shrinkies

E' un po' che non riesco a usare la shrink plastic perché non ho tempo, ma prima di iniziare a lavorare ho fatto un sacco di gioielli con in mente Halloween. Stavolta li ho fatti colorati usando i pantoni di Tiger (che mi piacciono molto anche per disegnare).

Per prima cosa ho fatto un coniglio fantasma, trasparente con uno scheletro marrone. Sempre in marrone ho fatto degli orecchini a forma di lancette, per un'accoppiata in stile Alice in Wonderland.

Poi ho fatto un paio di orecchini a coniglietto fantasma kawaii.

E infine ho fatto una versione pucciosa di Luna di Sailor Moon, che ho attaccato come ciondolo ad una catena di metallo viola.

I wasn't able to use shrink plastic in the last period because I don't have time, but,before I started working I made some jewelry thinking about Halloween. This time I coloured using the pantone-like Tiger markers (which I also like to draw).

First I did a ghost rabbit, transparent with a brown skeleton. Using brown I also made clock hands earrings, for an Alice in Wonderland pairing.

Then I made a pair of kawaii ghost bunnied earrings.

Finally, I made a cute version of Luna from Sailor Moon, which I attached as a pendant to a purple metal chain.

Le mie mongolfiere/My hot air baloons

Di tutti gli esperimenti con la shrink plastic, per qualche motivo le mongolfiere sono sempre state quelli malriusciti.

Nella prima ho dimenticato di fare il buco in alto. Ho finito per riciclarla, invertita, come orecchino singolo.

Of all my experiments with shrink plastic, for some reason the hot air balloons always come out bad.

In the first I forgot to punch the upper hole. I ended up recycling it, inverted, as a single earring.

Sulla seconda ho collaudato i pennarelli colorati, ma è venuta troppo scura e tutta storta.

On the second I tried the coulored markers, but it came out too dark and all crooked.

La terza finalmente è venuta dritta, con tutti i buchi giusti e colorata più o meno bene. Ho dipinto il retro di bianco per fare risaltare di più i colori, ho colorato il bianco con i pennarelli, poi ho provato ad aggiungere dell'ombretto d'oro sul retro, che poi ho ripassato con lo smalto trasparente facendo un po' un pasticcio. L'effetto finale però non mi dispiace.

The third one finally came straight, with all the right holes and colored more or less well. I painted the back white to make the colors stand out more, I colored the white with the markers, then tried to add golden eyeshadow on the back, which I covered with transparent nail polish making a bit of a mess . But I quite like the final effect.

Balena, sardine, inchiostro e pennino/Whale, sardines, ink and nib

Come avrete già notato nei miei precedenti outfit o seguendomi su Instagram (mi trovate come @mentaconiglio), sto impazzendo con la shrink plastic come avevo già fatto al tempo con i timbri. Quello che mi attrae è che anche questa è un'attività che mi permette di coniugare il disegno alla creazione di vestiti e accessori. Durerà? Cosa ne tirerò fuori? Vedremo!

Nel frattempo pubblicherò a poco a poco i miei lavori sul blog.

Quelli di cui per ora sono più fiera sono le collane con doppio ciondolo. La prima che ho fatto è stata una balena trasparente di shrink plastic che insegue un ciondolo metallico a forma di nave.

Ho abbinato degli orecchini a sardina che ho dipinto sul retro con smalto a brillantini per simulare il riflesso delle squame.

As you may have already noticed in my previous outfits or following me on Instagram (you find me as @mentaconiglio), I went crazy with shrink plastic as happened some time ago with stamps. What attracts me is that this is another activity that allows me to combine drawing with the creation of clothes and accessories. Will it last? What will I get out of it? We'll see!

In the meantime, I will publish my work on the blog.

The one I am more proud of at the moment are the double pendant necklaces. The first I made was a transparent shrink plastic whale following a metal ship pendant.

I also made sardine earrings to coordinate with it. I painted them on the back with glitter nail polish to simulate the reflection on light on scales.

La seconda collana a doppio ciondolo che ho fatto è stata una formata da una piuma con pennino e da una bottiglietta di inchiostro (strizzando l'occhio al mio lavoro come illustratrice/fumettista: adesso so che gioielli portare alle fiere!). In abbinamento (o anche no) ho fatto degli orecchini a forma di lampadina per dimostrare quanto io sia brillante (ha ha).

The second double pendant necklace I made had a feather with a nib and a bottle of ink (winking at my work as an illustrator/cartoonist: now I know which piece of jewelry I should bring to fairs!). To go with it (or not) I made bulb-shaped earrings to show how bright I am (ha ha).

Shrink plastic: recensione... volante/Shrink plastic: a review with (almost) flying colors

Da qualche tempo volevo provare la shrink plastic, la plastica termosensibile che si restringe e inspessisce con il calore, ma per paura che non fosse granché e di danneggiare il forno avevo sempre lasciato perdere.

Approfittando di un ordine Amazon però, ho fatto un colpo di testa. Ho preso la A4 CRYSTAL CLEAR Shrink Plastic Sheets - Shrink Art Craft Pack, una confezione da 6 fogli trasparenti che ho pagato 12,21€.

Il primo passo è stato stampare un disegno da ricalcare sulla plastica, ritagliare e infornare e io ho scelto delle ali da libellula. I fogli assomigliano molto alla carta da lucido come trasparenza e flessibilità.

Stampando il disegno mi sono resa conto che erano più piccoli di un vero A4. Prima delusione. Ho dovuto ristampare l'immagine. L'ho ricalcata con i pennarelli Staedtler da architetto che si sono rivelati non adattissimi, perché lasciano un pochino giù anche dopo la cottura.

I wanted to try shrink plastic, thermosensitive plastic that shrink and thicken when heat up, from some time, but for fear that it was a fluke and of damaging the oven I always gave up.

Taking advantage of an Amazon order, though, I eneded up buying my first set. I took the A4 CRYSTAL CLEAR Shrink Plastic Sheets - Shrink Art Craft Pack, a 6 transparent sheets package that I paid 12,21€.

The first step was to print something to draw on the plastic, cut and cook it, and I chose dragonfly wings. I realized the sheets were smaller than a real A4. First disappointment. I had to reprint the image. I tracked it with Staedtler pigment liners, which turned out to be unfit, because they bleed a little even after the baking.

A questo punto ho infornato. Le istruzioni sulla confezione dicevano che la plastica si sarebbe ristretta di sette volte e di metterla in forno su di un foglio di alluminio.

Il risultato è stato pessimo: la plastica si è ristretta di poco più della metà, così mi sono trovata delle ali di libellula gigantesche che non so bene come usare. In più, cuocendo, si è in parte attaccata all'alluminio, per cui le ali non sono venute lisce, ma un po' ondulate.

At this point I put the wings in the oven. The instructions on the packaging said that the plastic would shrink seven times and to put it in the oven on an aluminum foil.

The result was bad: the plastic shrank just a bit more than half, so I got gigantic dragonfly wings that I don't know how to use. In addition, while they cooked, they partially stuck to the aluminum, so the wings did not come out smooth, but slightly wavy.

Ho riprovato una seconda volta disegnandole di poco più del doppio della dimensione di cui le volevo e infornandole su carta da forno e il risultato è stato molto, molto migliore!

Ho spennellato leggermente il lato con il disegno con dell'ombretto perlato per ottenere un effetto un po' cangiante, più simile a vere ali di libellula.

Ho montato le ali con una perla sfaccettata rosso scuro e un pezzo di catena a delle monachelle, ottenendo gli orecchini che volevo.

Nei miei lavori successivi ci sono ancora piccole imperfezioni perché a volte la plastica risulta opaca a chiazze e non sempre viene perfettamente dritta, ma ci sto prendendo la mano e in complesso, una volta capito come usarla, sono soddisfatta della shrink che ho comprato. Viste però le istruzioni sbagliate che mi hanno fatto sprecare un foglio su sei, per un acquisto successivo non so se la ricomprerei (comunque a questo punto mi piacerebbe provare la versione bianca).

I tried a second time by drawing them a little more than twice the size I wanted and cooking them on baking paper and the result was much, much better!

I slightly brushed the side with pearly eyeshadow to get a slightly shimmering effect, like true dragonfly wings.

I mounted my wings with a dark red faceted pearl and a chain to hooks, getting the earrings I wanted.

In my following works there are still small blemishes because sometimes the plastic is dull in patches and is not always perfectly straight, but I'm getting better and, once I understood how to use it, I'm satisfied with the shrink plastic I bought. However, seen the wrong instructions that made me waste a sheet out of six, I do not know if I would buy it again (anyway at this point I would like to try the white version).
