London: day 2

My friend Prociona decided to educate me British food, so every day for breakfast she made me try new things. On Tuesday she made crumpets, a sort of spongy round buns served hot with sweet or savory seasoning. We chose the traditional butter. I liked them a lot, so much so that on the last day I wanted to buy some to take home, but I didn't make it on time.

That morning my friend had to work, so we divided. I went to Kings Cross to take a picture at the famous Harry Potter's 9 3/4 Platform (for the uninitiated, the scarves of the houses are free and there is an attendant to blow them and an official photographer who sells his photos, although you can also take them for free).
I had an appointment there with Clyo of La vita puzza to finally meet in person. Unfortunately I had not calculated the length of the row for the photo, so she not only had to wait for me me, but I also made her take my pictures. At that point, without great suffering, I avoided the expensive themed shop.

We went to the Cartoon Museum, small, but very rich. It always hosts a themed exibition, which at that time was about comics during the Second World War. There is ab entrance fee (£ 7 full, but with many applicable reductions).
I was very satisfied, although for certain works I would have preferred more information on authors or techniques.

Poi siamo andate a pranzare da Mr.Wu, un all you can eat cinese a soho, in Wardour street 28.

Clyo also brought me at Blade Rubber Stamps, a store entirely dedicated to stamps, where I bought the cool inks she uses, that can also be used on the fabric, to the Forbidden Planet, a super famous comics store (with few comics and lots of gadgets), to Neal's Yard, a colorful corner of the city, and to Magma, a super artistic and strange hipster shop.
Then we went to have lunch at Mr.Wu, a Chinese all you can eat in Soho, in Wardour Street 28. It looked a bit shabby, but it was good and cheap (we spent about 7£ each).

After lunch we went to the British Museum, where we met with Prociona. In the America section I was really moved by the genuine Aztec manuscript and the human skull covered with turquoise mosaic that I had only seen in books.

In the North America section I loved this super fashion bag.

The China section was very beautiful and rich. I loved the little carved jade jewelry, but the piece I admired the most was the bottle with metal flower with petals colored blue through the application of kingfisher feathers.

The Japan section was nice, but nothing really special. I liked to compare booklets with portraits of famous actors (substantially equivalent of our gossip magazines) before and after the invention of photography.

Out of the museum we parted with Clyo and walked towards Oxford Street, the busiest shopping street of London, with a break to buy an onigiri at Wasabi, a kind of Japanese fast food that I loved on my last trip.

Oxford Street was my idea because I really wanted to go shopping at Primark, my favorite low cost clothing chain that is supposed to open in Italy too, but it is not here yet. I went on a frenzy spending a lot of money.

After shopping we went to the supermarket to buy dinner. Since I wanted to try the shepherd's pie we opted for the "luxury" one of Marks & Spencer. I thought it was a too posh supermarket, but I loved it and some things had relatively low prices. We took the meal deal: main dish, side dish and dessert for 6 pounds.
I also bought an apple sauce and mustard to take home hoping that they were dense enough to not be considered liquid at the airport, but in the end they were confiscated.

We started dinner with awesome crackers and cheese that Prociona bought at Waitrose, another posh supermarket.

Then we attacked our Marks & Spencer loot: shepherd's pie (delicious spiced lamb meat covered with mashed potatoes), cheddar mashed potatoes (good, but did not taste much of cheddar) and apple crumble (a kind of buttery jam with biscuit like crumbs served warm).
