Un giorno sulle ciaspole/A day with snowshoes

A few weeks ago, my friend Bi, I and our respective halves, went to trek with snowshoes for the first time at Piani dell'Avaro above Cusio, a couple of hours drive from Milan (attention, in some periods you have to pay a toll). Piani dell'Avaro in summer are pastures, but in winter they become a cross-country ski track with also a couple of ski lifts for downhill ski (with easy and short slopes) and various snowshoes trails.

Once we arrived, we hired snowshoes and ski poles at the cafè-restaurant Ristorobie (7€).

From the restaurant we took the ring route, which flanks in part the cross-country ski trail and passes close to a chapel dedicated to the Assumption, to a drinking trough and to a stone building in ruins. We completed it in about two hours.

After all this exercise we stopped to eat at Ristorobie, which makes dishes typical of the area of Bergamo and beyond. The restaurant is small (fortunately we had booked), modern, with the classic rustic furniture of mountain places. There were various choices of first and second courses. We shared some good, but not exceptional, pappardelle with hare ragout, and an exceptional polenta taragna with venison stew and butter porcini mushrooms. The desserts were very popular, so I took a slice of raspberry sacher, which was actually very good.
There is a special menu at a great price exclusively for cyclists and bikers. In the evening the restaurant is open only by reservation.

In the afternoon we took another walk with snowshoes, and also went to see the tiny frozen lake near the main buildings of the district.

Wow, this is amazing. I love that, through your blog, you show such a lot of Italian culture and places I would never see as a tourist! <3
