Portugal: shopping

During my travel to Portugal I did some purchases. As souvenirs I bought some yummy things to take home: the most wanted was Ginja de Obidos, the sweeter version of the famous Portuguese cherry liqueur, with chocolate cups in which to drink it. Then I bought a sheep and cow's milk cheese (less good than what I hoped), sardines in spicy tomato sauce, sardine pate and black pudding.

As a souvenir I also took two books that I like a lot. At the bookshop of the Carmo Convent in Lisbon, which is an archaeological museum, I bought the sketchbook guide to the museum in English, published by Gerador, because I found it very nice idea (5€). At he famous Lello Library of Porto, where were also shot various scenes of Harry Potter, I bought an English book on how to cook Portuguese dishes with canned fish. I admit that I bought it especially for the design as it is shaped as a vintage sardines can! I paid it 6€, but I got a 3€ discount because now you pay an entrance fee of that cost to visit the library unless you buy a book, in which case they are deducted from the price of the book itself.

In Porto, in a tourist shop, I bought a pair of sunglasses with a fake wood frame and blue mirror lenses for 3,5€. In theory I should not have done it because I'm very short-sighted and never wear lenses, so with these glasses I'm virtually blind, but they will be fine for the beach (not that I hadn't already a pair...).

I admit that during my shopping trip to Lisbon I did a stupid thing: I went to H & M and bought a dress that wasn't on sale. However, considering that I paid it 10 € and I really like the model, pattern and colors, I don't regret it!

Since in Portugal there were already the sales, I did  the rest of my clothes shopping on discount. I was persuaded by my boyfriend to buy these shorts that fit me very well, have pockets, a beautiful print, but that are really short, a bit out of my comfort zone. I took them at Backstage, in Porto, for 5€.

A purchase of which I'm thoroughly convinced are the banana yellow sneakers that I bought at Guimaraes (a Portuguese shoe shops chain) for 10€. In general in Portugal I found many economic shoe stores (but not the sandals I wanted...).

I've seen many colorful summer jewelry with tassels around, but nothing beautiful or cheap enough to buy on impulse. In return I went to a creative material shop and for just over 5€ (more or less the italian prices) I bought two medallion bases, pink and fluorescent yellow tassels and pendants in the shape of dragonflies, starfish and rudders. My new summer jewels are guaranteed!

As for the things that I did not buy, in Lisbon I saw many shops with very funny t shirts. I would have loved to buy one, but the models were fitted for men, and the prices were quite high (15-20€), so I gave up.

I also found many shops selling second hand clothes, most with more than acceptable costs as those of the chain Humana (where there were also crazy sales) and some more expensive. But I could not find anything that I liked enough (except the dress above, that of course was too expensive).

Those sunglasses are amazing, though! It only matters that everyone can see you looking fabulous in them, even if you can't see who's looking :P

I also laughed at your boyfriend persuading you to buy the short shorts, I would have made him pay for them, haha XP

(And I honestly thought that book with the beautiful illustrations was your sketchbook! I want to paint like that someday... ;-;)

@Rhiannon: thank you XD

OMG you're right! Next time I'll do it!

Thank you for believing the beautiful watercolours were mine! We'll get that better one day ;D
