Castagne, streghe e... dintorni‏

Sabato 10 io e la Pelosa Metà siamo andati ad una manifestazione che si tiene a Rovenna (vicino al lago di Como) ogni anno, Castagne, streghe e... dintorni‏.

All'andata siamo stati un po'sfortunati: appena fuori casa mi si è rotto lo zaino e sono dovuta tornare a casa a sostituirlo. Abbiamo preso il treno all'ultimo secondo, ma una volta saliti  hanno fatto cambiare treno a tutti i passeggeri. Così siamo arrivati a Como in ritardo. Per colpa di questo, di un'informazione che non ci hanno dato in biglietteria, e del fatto che abbiamo sbagliato strada (sì, di nuovo), abbiamo perso il battello giusto.

Così ci siamo fermati a guardare le bancarelle gastronomiche vicino al molo.

On saturday the 10th, my Hairy Half and I went to an event held every year in Rovenna (near Como Lake), Castagne, streghe e... dintorni‏ (Chestnuts, witches and... surroundings).

On the way there we were a bit unlucky: just outside our house my backpack broke and I had to go back to replace it. We took the train at the last second, but once aboard all passengers  were made to change trains. So we arrived in Como late. Because of this, of the missing information they gave us at the ticket office, and the fact that we got lost (yes, again), we missed the right boat.

So we stopped to look at the food stalls near the pier.

Nella sfortuna però siamo stati fortunati: prendendo il battello successivo siamo arrivati appena in tempo per unirci a "verso stregolandia", una passeggiata guidata verso Rovenna, destinata principalmente ai bambini (ce n'erano tantissimi vestiti da streghe e stregoni).

Lungo la strada c'erano bellissimi scorci panoramici e un antico tornio che però all'andata era chiuso. La strada, ovviamente, era adatta anche ai bambini, ma era più ripida di quanto mi aspettassi. Nell'antico borgo di Stomaino, che era già tutto decorato con streghe, zucche, pipistrelli e quant'altro, c'erano un rinfresco e uno spettacolo per i bambini. A quel punto abbiamo abbandonato il gruppo proseguendo verso Rovenna (incontrando una bellissima lapide antica).

But in the bad luck we were lucky: taking the next boat we arrived just in time to join "to stregaland", a guided walk to Rovenna, intended primarily for children (there were many dressed as witches and sorcerers).

Along the way there were beautiful panoramic views and an old lathe that at the moment was closed. The road, of course, was also suitable for children, but it was steeper than I expected. In the ancient village of Stomaino, which was all decorated with witches, pumpkins, bats and so on, there were refreshments and a show for children. We left the group continuing to Rovenna (encountering a beautiful ancient tombstone).

Rovenna ci è parsa bellissima, con case di pietra e decorazioni a tema dappertutto.

We tought Rovenna was beautiful, with stone houses and themed decorations everywhere.

Nei vicoli e nei cortili c'erano tantissime bancarelle gastronomiche e di oggettistica. Queste ultime non mi hanno interessato particolarmente, c'erano i soliti oggettini in fimo e di cartoleria fatti a mano, un po' di gioielli, qualche vestito e accessorio a tema.

Invece quelle gastronomiche erano appetitose, con tanto miele, formaggi, salumi, torte e altro, ma alla fine ho comprato solo cibo che ho consumato sul momento.

In generale mi ha dato molto fastidio che sulla maggior parte delle bancarelle non ci fossero i prezzi.

In the alleys and courtyards there were many food and handicradt stalls. The latter didn't interest me particularly, there were the usual polymer clay trinkets and handmade stationery, some jewelry and some themed clothes and accessory.

Instead the gastronomic ones looked yummy, with lots of honey, cheese, salami, cakes, etc., but in the end I bought only food I ate on the spot.

In general I didn't like that on most of the stalls there were no prices.

C'erano anche delle mostre e degli eventi. Noi abbiamo visto solo le vipere e gli aspidi sotto spirito in Curt del Gaetan.

There were also exhibitions and events. We saw only the vipers and asps in alcohol in Curt del Gaetan.

Però abbiamo fatto anche il percorso di assaggi gastronomici, da gustare previo pagamento di un biglietto generale in quattro punti della città. Abbiamo assaggiato pane casereccio con formaggio caprino ed erba cipollina, sfogliatine con slinzega e pecorino e bignole con crema di casoretta (un formaggio lombardo) e castagne. Nel biglietto era compreso anche un assaggio di torta di pane e castagne profumata all'arancia, ma quando siamo arrivati allo stand non c'erano più né l'addetto né la torta, una vera scocciatura, visto che l'avevamo già pagata.

But we also did the tasting rout that could be enjoyed by the previous payment of a general ticket in four areas of the city. We ate homemade bread with goat cheese and chives, savoury puffs with slinzega (a local cold cut) and cheese and puffs with casoretta (a Lombard cheese) cream and chestnuts. In the ticket was also included  a taste of bread and chestnuts cake flavored with orange, but when we arrived at the stand there were nor the employee nor the cake, a nuisance, since we had already paid for it.

Ci siamo consolati con delle castagne con panna montata fatta a mano in Curt del Piela. Nessuno di noi due è un patito delle castagne, ma queste erano molto buone.

Nel tardo pomeriggio ci siamo imbattuti in un oratorio che stava preparando una specie di sagra con un menù molto invitante, e la sera erano in programma molti altri eventi interessanti a Rovenna e uno spettacolo di fuochi d'artificio a Villa d'Este a Consonno.  Purtroppo non ci eravamo organizzati per restare anche la sera, quindi siamo dovuti tornare. In ogni caso siamo stati molto contenti della gita, che fra l'altro mi ha messo nello spirito giusto per Halloween. Mi piacerebbe vedere anche la parte serale della manifestazione uno dei prossimi anni.

We consoled ourselves with chestnuts with handmade whipped cream in Curt del Piela. Neither of us is a chestnuts fan, but these were very good.

In the late afternoon we came across an oratory that was preparing a kind of festival with a very inviting menu, and in the evening in Rovenna were scheduled many other interesting events and in Consonno there was a fireworks show at Villa d'Este. Unfortunately we hadn't arranged to stay in the evening, so we had to return. In any case we were very happy with the trip, which among the other things put me in the mood for Halloween. I'd like to  see the evening part of the event one of the next years.

Scendendo per lo stesso sentiero dell'andata, abbiamo trovato aperto il torchio dell'andata. Era molto interessante e abbiamo avuto la fortuna di trovare il proprietario e un altro signore che ci hanno offerto un assaggio di salumi e vino e ci hanno spiegato la sua storia.

Going down the same trail, we found the lathe open. It was very interesting and we were lucky enough to find the owner and another man who offered us a taste of cold cuts and wine and explained its story.

Il panorama al ritorno era anche più bello che all'andata.

The scenery on the way back was even more beautiful.

Ci siamo fermati ad aspettare il battello sul lungolago di Caspoggio, che con la luce del tramonto e dei lampioni e gli alberi che stavano cambiando colore, era davvero suggestivo.

We stopped to wait for the boat on the lake front in Caspoggio, that with the light of sunset and of the street lamps and the trees that were changing color, was really beautiful.

Sono anche molto contenta che abbiamo scelto di tornare in battello invece che in autobus (anche se con l'autobus saremmo potuti tornare più tardi) per via del bellissimo panorama.

I am also very glad we chose to go back by boat instead than by bus (even if taking the bus we could come back later) because of the beautiful view.
