Dollhouse II

Dollhouse è una serie televisiva statunitense del 2009, ideata da Joss Whedon, creatore fra l'altro di Buffy l'ammazzavampiri.

Il centro del telefilm è la Dollhouse, una potente organizzazione segreta che fornisce a ricchi clienti delle "doll", persone riprogrammate con un'avanzatissima tecnologia per soddisfare i loro desideri. Le doll sono volontari, che per cinque anni rinunciano alla propria personalità e diventano proprietà della Dollhouse in cambio di un ricco compenso in denaro. Nel frattempo vengono loro impiantate diverse personalità a seconda dell'incarico per cui sono stati assunti. Quando sono in ditta invece le doll vengono lasciate deprogrammate, incapaci di pensieri o azioni complessi.

La protagonista è Echo, una "doll" che dimostra capacità particolari. 

Conta due stagioni, di tredici episodi ciascuna. Qui recensisco la seconda è anche l'ultima perché il telefilm è stato sospeso, ma per fortuna c'è una vera e propria conclusione (trovate la recensione della prima qui).

La seconda stagione vede spiegati i flashback che avevamo visto nella puntata di fine serie, Epitaph one, fino ad arrivare all'ultima puntata che si ricollega direttamente con il futuro distopico mostrato in Epitaph one e conclude definitivamente la vicenda.

La tensione rimane altissima per tutta la serie, con vari colpi di scena. Soprattutto verso la fine, alcuni avvenimenti risultano innaturalmente sincopati e molti colpi di scena sono mostrati, ma non spiegati, di modo che lo spettatore deve ricostruire cosa potrebbe essere successo. Ci sarebbe tranquillamente stata una terza serie. D'altronde è cosa nota che la serie è stata conclusa in tutta fretta per tagli al budget, ed è già incredibile che la qualità non sia calata nonostante questo.

I comprimari continuano ad essere le vere stelle, mentre i protagonisti, Echo e Paul, risultano ancora poco simpatici (almeno a me) in tutti i loro superpoteri e la loro sete di giustizia. Il loro finale è il meno convincente di tutti, anzi, rischia quali di affossare la conclusione nel ridicolo.

In definitiva, la seconda serie è la degna prosecuzione della prima, con ancora più tensione, colpi di scena e un crescendo ben fatto. Il difetto di dedicare poco spazio ad alcuni avvenimenti, potrebbe essere addirittura un punto di forza, perché la narrazione rimane focalizzata sugli avvenimenti più importanti.

Consiglio tantissimo entrambe le serie, da guardare di seguito tutte d'un fiato.

The center of the show is the Dollhouse, a powerful secret organization that provides to rich clients "dolls", people reprogrammed with an advanced technology to meet their desires. The dolls are volunteers, who for five years give up their personality and become the property of the Dollhouse in exchange for a full monetary compensation. In the meantime they are programmed with different personalities depending on the assignment for which they were hired. When they're in the company ground, instead the dolls are deprogrammed, left unable to elaborate complex thoughts or actions.

The protagonist is Echo, a doll who demonstrates special skills.

It has two seasons of thirteen episodes each. Here I review the second that is also the last because the show has been suspended, but luckily there is a real conclusion (you can find te review of the first here). 

The second season sees the flashbacks that we saw in the episode to end the series, Epitaph One, 

 explained 

until the last episode that is directly linked with the dystopian future shown in Epitaph One and finally concludes the story.

The tension remains high throughout the series, with various twists. Especially towards the end, some events are unnaturally syncopated and many twists are shown, but not explained, so that the viewer must piece together what might have happened. There could have been space for a third series. On the other hand it is known that the series was completed in a hurry due to budget cuts, so it's already amazing that 

despite this 

the quality didn't decrease.

The supporting actors continue to be the real stars, while the protagonists, Echo and Paul,

 with all their superpowers and their thirst for justice

 are still not very likeable (at least for me). Their final is the least convincing of all and risks to fall into ridiculous threatening to ruin the conclusion.

Finally, the second series is a worthy continuation of the first, with even more tension, twists and a 

well done 

crescendo. The flaw of giving little space to some events, might even be a strength , because the narration remains focused on the most important events.

I strongly suggest to watch both series, one after another.
