The king of Elfland's Daughter

The King of Elfland's Daughter è un libro fantasy del 1928, scritto da Lord Dunsany. L'ho letto perché è considerato fra i lavori pionieristici del fantasy moderno.
Dunsany crea delle belle immagini, ma in definitiva il libro è noioso, ha uno stile che imita quello di favole e leggende, cantilenante e con abuso di ripetizioni ad hoc, e di fatto nella storia succede ben poco. Però non è da buttare.
Parla degli abitanti di un villaggio che desiderano introdurvi della magia per renderlo celebre e del figlio del governatore che viene mandato nella terra della magia per sposare la figlia del re. Nonostante il titolo, la figlia del re non ha un ruolo predominante.
 In italiano si chiama La figlia del re degli elfi, ed è reperibile su siti come Amazon, purtroppo a prezzo piuttosto alto. Piuttosto, se siete interessati, consiglio l'edizione inglese, che non è scritta in maniera difficilissma.

Dunsany creates beautiful images, but ultimately the book is boring, it has a style that mimics that of of fables and legends, singsonging and abusing repetitions ad hoc, and very little happens in the story. But it is not so bad either.

It tells of villagers who wish for magic to make their village famous and of the son of the governor who is sent to the land of magic to marry the king's daughter. Despite the title, the king's daughter does not have a predominant role.
