Birthday trip to London: day 5

L'ultimo giorno del viaggio a Londra che mi sono regalata per il mio trentesimo compleanno siamo dovuti partire in tarda mattinata, quindi non abbiamo potuto fare molto.
Siamo andati al supermercato a fare scorta di cibo tipico.

The last day of the trip to London that I treated myself to for my thirtieth birthday we had to leave late in the morning, so we couldn't do much.
We went to the supermarket to stock up on typical food.

Durante l'intero viaggio abbiamo comprato: delle patatine Sensations a lime e chutney (buone), crackers Ryvita alla cipolla dolce (favolosi), crackers Jacob's ai semi (niente male), chai latte alla vaniglia in polvere, chai tea in bustine, tè Lapsang affumicato, pita, crumpets normali, crumpets butterscotch e crumpets a cheddar e pepe nero (si capisce che mi piacciono i crumpets?), formaggio Leichester (che pure mi piace un sacco) e biscotti allo zenzero ricoperti di cioccolato della Tesco (peggio di quel che speravo).

La mia amica Prociona mi ha anche regalato delle barrette alla frutta e cereali Nakd e del chai latte in polvere.

During the entire trip we bought: Sensations lime and chutney chips (good), Ryvita sweet onion crackers (fabulous), Jacob's seeds crackers (not bad), vanilla chai latte powder, chai teabags, Smoked Lapsang tea, pita, regular crumpets, butterscotch crumpets and crumpets with cheddar and black pepper (is it evident that I like crumpets?), Leichester cheese (which I like a lot) and Tesco ginger cookies covered with chocolate (worse than what I hoped).

My friend Prociona also gave me some Nakd cereal and fruit bars and chai latte powder.

Ho anche comprato un quaderno molto bello (sono un'accumulatrice seriale di quaderni, anche se li uso sempre meno) e un'agendina 2018 del sobrio color oro rosa.

I also bought a very nice notebook (I am a serial accumulator of notebooks, even if I use them less and less) and a 2018 book of a sober pink gold color.

Abbiamo preso l'autobus per l'aeroporto nella zona di Whitechapel, dove c'è un mercato di prodotti tipici del Bangladesh. Alle bancarelle però siamo riusciti a dare solo un'occhiata veloce.

We took the bus for airport from the Whitechapel area, where there is a market of typical Bangladesh products. But we only managed to take a quick look at the stalls.

 

Abbiamo pranzato in aeroporto da Itsu, una catena giapponese a prezzi contenuti. Visto che avevamo delle sterline da smaltire non ci siamo trattenuti e abbiamo preso due piatti a testa spendendo circa 41£. Non era malaccio, ma, sullo stesso genere preferisco Wasabi.

Però il dolce, un budino al cioccolato e latte di cocco di Coconut Collaborative, mi ha fatto impazzire. Voglio provare a rifarlo a casa!

We had lunch at the airport at Itsu, a Japanese chain with reasonable prices. Since we had pounds to dispose of we did not hold back and we took two dishes each spending around £41. It was not too bad, but on the same style I prefer Wasabi.

But the dessert, a chocolate pudding and coconut milk from Coconut Collaborative, was super awesome. I want to try to make it at home!

Per rendere meno deprimente il ritorno a casa, all'aereoporto abbiamo comprato la buonissima insalata con avocado e granchio di Pret A Manger da mangiare a cena.
E così sono partita per Londra che ancora ero nei miei 20 anni e sono tornata a Milano trentenne.

To make the return home less depressing, at the airport we bought our favourite avocado and crab salad from Pret A Manger to eat for dinner.
And so I left for London that I was still in my 20s and I returned to Milan in my 30s.

Siciliano (Milano)

Siciliano è un ristorante, in Corso Garibaldi 26, a Milano. Per l'appunto è siciliano, ma fa anche piatti fusion, prevalentemente tartare e uramaki. Ci sono stata con la mia famiglia a festeggiare il compleanno di mia madre.

Il locale di per sé è abbastanza piccolo, decorato a tema con tocchi un po' pacchiani come le stampe fotografiche alle pareti, ma anche molto carini, come i pupi appesi al soffitto e le terraglie tipiche.

Come antipasto (non so se a pagamento perché non ho pagato io il conto, ma non credo) ci sono stati offerti un bicchiere di prosecco a testa e un piatto di sottilissimi fili di patata fritti.

Come primo ho preso la pasta fatta in casa con gamberi rossi e pistacchi di Bronte, assolutamente deliziosa. Ho assaggiato anche quella con pesce spada e melanzane che era pure buonissima.

Poi abbiamo preso dei piatti fusion. La tartare per i miei gusti era troppo condita, si sentiva troppo poco il sapore del pesce.

Gli uramaki con carne di suino nero dei Nebrodi erano molto buoni.

Gli uramaki Mazara del Vallo con Gambero Rosso di Mazara e passion fruit erano meravigliosi e in effetti sono uno dei piatti di punta del ristorante. Il gambero si scioglieva in bocca, era talmente buono che era quasi un peccato non mangiarlo da solo.

Forse ho comunque preferito la pasta agli uramaki, ma era tutto delizioso.

I prezzi non sono improponibili, ma sicuramente nemmeno bassi: solo il piatto di uramaki costa 16€. Sicuramente in parte è giustificato dagli ingredienti di ottima qualità, però anche il fatto di essere un ristorante trendy in zona Brera appesantisce lo scontrino. Ci tornerei? Sì, soprattutto se il conto lo pagasse qualcun'altro.

A febbraio, fino a Setsubun, la festa giapponese della primavera, il tempo è stato abbastanza bello. Poi è gradualmente peggiorato finché non sono arrivati freddo polare e neve che, ironicamente, mi hanno impedito di andare a sciare l'ultimo weekend del mese.

In February, until Setsubun, the Japanese holyday celebrating the arrival of spring, the weather was quite nice. Then it gradually worsened until a polar cold and even snow arrived and, ironically, prevented me from going to ski on the last weekend of the month.

A inizio mese sono andata ad un divertente spettacolo-conferenza sulla fisica dei supereroi (ovvero sulla teoria della relatività spiegata tramite Flash) organizzata da Nerd Burger.

At the beginning of the month I went to a nice show-conference about the physics of superheroes (in this case about relativity theory explained with Flash), organized by Nerd Burger.

Ho deciso di iscrivermi ad un ulteriore corso di fumetto, anche se non so dove troverò il tempo per seguirlo. Per ora ho seguito un laboratorio poco convincente e iniziato a scrivere la sceneggiatura.

I decided to enroll in a new comics class, even if I don't know where I will find the time to follow it. For now I followed an unconvincing workshop and started writing the scipt.

A San Valentino avevo piani elaboratissimi, ma abbiamo finito per passare la serata in casa con un film e culurgiones alla bottarga. Abbiamo recuperato nel weekend vedendo "La forma dell'acqua", che mi è piaciuto molto.

On Valentine's Day I had elaborate plans, but we ended up spending the evening at home watching a film and eating culargiones with bottarga. We made up on the weekend watching "The shape of water", which I really liked.

A fine mese ho preso l'influenza. Passare due giorni a casa mi ha permesso di riposare e di dedicare del tempo ad attività a cui non riuscivo a dedicarmi da tempo come guardare i cartoni animati.

At the end of the month I got the flu. Spending two days at home allowed me to rest and dedicate time to activities that I didn't do from a lot of time like watching cartoons.

Anche questo mese non ho creato tantissimo, ma un po' più dei precedenti.

Ho fatto una mia versione della collana di Chibiusa, ho stampato una felpa una felpa con il dinosauro che compare quando Google va offline per San Valentino per mio marito che fa il programmatore, poi ho fatto degli orecchini e ho allungato un vestito.

This month I didn't create a lot again, but still a little more than on the previous ones.

I made my own version of Chibiusa's necklace, for Valentine's Day I printed a sweatshirt with the dinosaur that appears when Google goes offline for my husband who is a programmer, then I made a pair of earrings and added lace to a dress.

Ho provato un nuovo ristorante, il Maoji Street Food, che fa street food cinese, e una nuova caffetteria, That's Bakery.

Ho anche cucinato due nuovi piatti, la pasta alla colatura di alici e le costine alla Mao.

La mia dieta non sta andando bene.

I tried a new restaurant, Maoji Street Food, which specialises in Chinese street food, and a new café, That's Bakery.

I also cooked two new dishes, pasta with anchovy sauce and Mao style ribs.

My diet is not going well.

Pasta alla colatura di alici/Anchovy drippings pasta

Ecco la preziosa ricetta per la pasta con la colatura di alici di mio zio.

Mettere a bollire la pasta senza salare l'acqua.

Scaldare 3 cucchiai olio con uno spicchio d'aglio tagliato a meta senza germe e del peperoncino. Quando inizia a fare le bollicine spegnere il fuoco e inclinare la pentola in modo che l'aglio sia sommerso. Lasciare insaporire.

Quando la pasta è quasi pronta (1 minuto alla fine della cottura) riaccendere sotto la pentola e aggiungere 3 cucchiai di colatura di alici.

Scolare la pasta tenendo una tazza di acqua di cottura. Trasferire la pasta nella padella a risottare per due minuti con mezza tazza di acqua di cottura. Se è troppo al dente aggiungere altra pasta.

Aggiungere a crudo prezzemolo riccio fresco o basilico freschissimo.
Il sapore somiglia un po' a quello della pasta alle vongole e la risottatura dà un tocco in più.

"Colatura di alici" or anchovy drippings is an Italian fish sauce made from anchovies, produced by fermenting anchovies in brine. The best one is made in the small fishing village of Cetara, Campania, with anchovies harvested between March 25th and July 22th.
Here is my uncle precious recipe to prepare pasta using this sauce.

Put the pasta to boil without salting the water.

Heat 3 tablespoons of oil with a clove of garlic cut in half without germ and two chilies. When the oil starts to make bubbles turn off the heat and tilt the pot so that the garlic is submerged. Leave it to flavor.

When the pasta is almost ready (1 minute until the end of its cooking), turn the heat back under the pan and add 3 tablespoons of anchovy drippings.

Drain the pasta keeping a cup of cooking water. Transfer the pasta into the pan and simmer for two minutes with half a cup of cooking water. If it is too al dente add more water.

Add fresh curly parsley or fresh basil without letting them cook.
The flavour is similar to clam pasta and the risotto style last part of the cooking gives it a creamy texture.

Anche questo mese non ho creato tantissimo, ma un po' più dei precedenti.

A San Valentino ho stampato per mio marito (che fa il programmatore) una felpa con il dinosauro che compare quando Google va offline.

Ne sono molto fiera e progetto di farmi qualcosa con lo stesso stencil.

Ho anche usato dei ciondoli a forma di cavallo a dondolo e delle perle di vetro colorate per farmi degli orecchini.

I also used rocking horse pendants and colored glass beads to make a pair of earrings.

 Ho trovato il tempo per fare un tot di lavoretti di cucito di cui avevo bisogno, fra cui riparare buchi e accorciare pantaloni. In tutto questo sono anche riuscita ad allungare un vestito rosa con i coniglietti che non mettevo quasi mai perché era troppo corto, usando una striscia di pizzo bianco (per fortuna resa coerente dai particolari di colletto e bottoni).

I found the time to do a few sewing jobs I needed, including repairing holes and shortening trousers. In all this I also managed to lengthen a pink dress with bunnies that I almost never wore because it was too short, using a strip of white lace (that fortunately matched with the details of the collar and the buttons).
