Consigliatissimo.

"Ötzi: for a handful of amber" ( original title "Ötzi. Por un puñado de ámbar") is a color comic by the Basque authors Mikel Begoña and Iñaket, published in their homeland by Norma Editorial.
The protagonist is Ötzi, the Chalcolithic mummy found in the Alps in 1991. It's the first volume of a trilogy inspired by the spaghetti western saga by Sergio Leone composed by these three films "Fistful of Dollars", " For a Few Dollars More" and "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly". The second volume, "El bueno, el feo y el tuerto" came out in September in Spain.
The plot: Europe, end of the fourth millennium BC. Mysterious horsemen start attacking the villages of the Alps, in order to seize the sacred amber.
Ötzi lives in a village in the Alps and is the best archer of his tribe despite he start to be old. The oracle entrusts him and the impetuous young Sölden, another great archer, with the mission to protect the mountain passes crossed by the amber merchants against ferocious knights.
Since I'm a prehistory nerd in general and an Ötzi fan in particular (I also visited the museum dedicated to him) I could not miss this comic, which explains the cause of his mysterious death.
Begoña and Iñaket to write it made reference to the studies about Ötzi and the alpine area, but they forced the story by introducing the taming of horses, already common in the eastern steppes, but not in the Alps. On the other hand a migration of horsemen towards the west is unlikely, but not impossible.
I found this comic engaging and very well done. Although there is a sequel, it also can be read as a single volume.
As for the art, I found it beautiful, stylized, but very expressive also thanks to the use of color, with scenes that refer to rock art.
Highly recommended.
