Star Wars: Gli ultimi Jedi/Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Sabato sono corsa a vedere l'Episodio VIII di Star Wars, "Star Wars: Gli ultimi Jedi" (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), scritto e diretto da Rian Johnson.

Si tratta del secondo capitolo della nuova trilogia, cominciata nel 2015 con "Star Wars: Il risveglio della forza" (Star Wars: the Force Awakens), che ho recensito qui.

Ecco una breve opinione del nuovo film SENZA SPOILER.

Come nel precedente, l'atmosfera torna ad essere quella dei film degli anni '80. Rispetto a "Il risveglio della forza", però la storia è decisamente più originale. Il che è sia male sia bene. Infatti ci sono scene memorabili, epiche, divertentissime, ma anche varie scene che non filano bene. In generale le parti con Poe Dameron e Luke Skywalker sono riuscitissime, mentre le parti con Finn sono le meno convincenti. In generale però la trama non funziona del tutto.

Rei continua ad essere una Mary Sue, ma mi è piaciuta la sua relazione con l'insopportabile Kylo Ren, che, grazie anche ad un'accurata copertura delle orecchie da Dumbo e a pettorali scolpiti, diventa un personaggio più interessante.

Le ambientazioni escono dalle tre-quattro tipologie standard di Star Wars (pianeta ghiacciato, pianeta deserto, pianeta coperto da foresta, pianeta coperto da un'unica città) e sono davvero molto belle. Anche la fauna aliena è ben fatta, con tocchi di adorabilità disneyana.

In generale è un film che ho trovato molto piacevole da guardare, ma che a posteriori mostra parecchi difetti. Nonostante questo, aspetto con ansia l'ultimo capitolo della trilogia e i film supplementari.

On Saturday I went to watch Star Wars Episode VIII, "Star Wars: The Last Jedi", written and directed by Rian Johnson.

It is the second chapter of the new trilogy, which began in 2015 with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", which I reviewed here.

Here is a brief opinion on the new film WITHOUT SPOILERS.

As in the previous one, the atmosphere returns to be the one of the films of the 80s. Compared to "The Force Awakens", however, the story manages to be quite original. Which is both bad and good. In fact there are memorable, epic and fun scenes, but also various scenes that don't work well. In general, the parts with Poe Dameron and Luke Skywalker are great, while the parts with Finn are the least convincing. In general, however, something is off with the plot.

Rei continues to be a Mary Sue, but I liked her relationship with the unbearable Kylo Ren, who, thanks to a careful covering of his Dumbo's ears and to sculpted pectorals, becomes a more interesting character.

The settings manage to be different from three-four Star Wars standard types (frozen planet, desert planet, planet covered by forest, planet covered by a single city) and are really beautiful. Even the alien fauna is well done, with touches of Disney cuteness.

In general it is a film that I found very pleasant to watch, but that in retrospect shows several flaws. Despite this, I look forward to the last chapter of the trilogy and to the additional films.
