"Allied - Un'ombra nascosta" (Allied) è un film del 2016 diretto da Robert Zemeckis. Si tratta di una storia d'amore e di spionaggio ambientata durante la seconda guerra mondiale.
Il protagonista è il comandante di aviazione franco-canadese Max Vatan, che viene mandato a Casablanca dove deve incontrare una spia alleata, Marianne Beausejour, e fingersi suo marito con lo scopo di assassinare l'ambasciatore della Germania nazista. La narrazione poi si sposta a Londra e fa un salto di un anno.
Marion Cotillard, che interpreta Marianne Beausejour, è molto brava e riesce a creare un personaggio complesso e credibile, che a tratti riesce ad emozionare. Delude un po' Brad Pitt, che non risulta al massimo delle sue capacità.
I costumi e le ambientazioni sono belli e le scene a Casablanca non possono fare a meno di riportare alla mente l'omonimo film.
La trama è molto interessante e non banale, ma risente un po' degli sbalzi temporali e della scelta di mostrare alcuni aspetti della vita dei protagonisti invece di altri. Secondo me non riesce a creare la giusta empatia con gli spettatori e nemmeno a trovare il giusto tono, fra un inizio un po' alla "Bastardi senza gloria" e un finale più vicino a "The imitation game".
Il film in definitiva è carino e ben fatto, ma ho avuto l'impressione che con una storia e un cast del genere si sarebbe potuto fare di più.
"Allied" is a 2016 movie directed by Robert Zemeckis. It is a story of love and espionage set during World War II.
The protagonist is the French-Canadian Aviation commander Max Vatan, who is sent to Casablanca where he has to meet an Allied spy, Marianne Beausejour, and pretend to be her husband in order to assassinate the nazi ambassador of Germany. The story then moves to London and has a one-year jump.
Marion Cotillard, who plays Marianne Beausejour, is very good and manages to create a complex and believable character, sometimes moving. Brad Pitt disappoints, he didn't seem at his full ability.
The costumes and the settings are beautiful and the scenes set in Casablanca can not help but bring to mind the eponymous film.
The plot is very interesting and not trite, but suffers a bit the time lapse and the choice to show some aspects of the life of the protagonists rather than others. In my opinion it doesn't manage to create the right empathy with the viewers and to even find the right tone, between a start that reminds a bit of "Inglourious Basterds" and a final closer to "The imitation game".
In the end it is a nice and well done movie, but I had the impression that with a story and a cast like that it could have been much better.
