Crazy Cat Cafè (Milano)
Per concludere degnamente l'anno, il 30 sono andata con una mia amica al Crazy Cat Café, il primo cat cafè di Milano. Si trova in via Napo Torriani 5, a 10 minuti dalla fermata della metro di Porta Venezia (è vicinissimo anche alla Borsa del Fumetto, per chi volesse l'esperienza nippo-nerd completa).
All'ingresso c'è una doppia porta per non far uscire i gatti, ma non si può suonare, abbiamo dovuto aspettare un po' che il personale ci notasse. In più, se il locale è pieno (e si è riempito parecchio in poco tempo) bisogna aspettare fuori, cosa che in inverno non è piacevole.
To conclude the year well, on the 30th I went with a friend to the Crazy Cat Café, the first cat cafe of Milan. It is located in Via Napo Torriani 5, 10 minutes from the Porta Venezia metro (is also close to Borsa del Fumetto, a famous comic shop, for the people who want the complete Japanese-nerd experience).
At the entrance there is a double door to not let the cats out, but you can not ring, so we had to wait for some time for the staff to notice us. Plus, if the place is full (and it was filled quickly) you have to wait outside, which in winter is not pleasant.
Il locale è diviso in due stanzette, una più piccola e una più grande che dà sull'esterno.
Ho trovato l'ambiente molto carino, caldo, con uno stile un po' shabby chic, cucina a vista, tanti mobili pensati per fare divertire i gatti. Essendo periodo natalizio, sul pianoforte c'erano delle piccole calze con i nomi dei gatti, che sono sei, tre maschi e tre femmine, e si chiamano tutti come cantanti famosi.
Anche se c'era qualche tavolino libero, siamo state fatte sedere al tavolo centrale con altre persone. Non mi è dispiaciuto però in altre occasioni (un'uscita romantica per esempio) mi avrebbe dato fastidio.
The restaurant is divided into two rooms, a smaller one and a larger one that looks on the outside.
I found the place very nice, warm, with a shabby chic style, an open-plan kitchen, many pieces of furniture designed to entertain the cats. Since it was the Christmas period, on the piano there were small stockings with the names of the cats, who are six, three males and three females, and are all named after famous singers.
Even if there was a free table, we were made to sit at the central table with other people. It was ok for me, however, on other occasions (dates for example) it would have annoyed me.
Sul tavolo c'era anche un libro da colorare a tema e delle matite colorate. Il locale mette a disposizione dei clienti anche giochini per gatti.
I gatti a inizio visita erano tutti in giro ed erano molto vivaci, poi la maggior parte è sparita o si è messa a dormire.
I clienti erano soprattutto hipster e nerd.
On the table there was also a themed coloring book and colored pencils. The restaurant offers customers even toys for cats.
The cats at the beginning of visit were all around and were very lively, but after a bit most of them went away or began to sleep.
The customers were mostly hipsters and nerds.
Per quanto riguarda il cibo, visto che avevamo già mangiato, sia io sia la mia amica abbiamo preso solo un catpuccino all'amaretto (3,50€). L'aroma di amaretto era chiaramente uno sciroppo, ma ce n'è arrivata una tazzona e ci è piaciuto. Abbiamo trovato molto carine le mug con il logo del caffè, ma soprattutto le tazze a forma di gatto in cui venivano serviti cioccolata calda e caffè.
Le varie tazze e le spillette con il logo del locale sono anche in vendita alla cassa.
Oltre ai prodotti di caffetteria, sul menù c'è qualche dolce, qualche piatto caldo e freddo, qualche panino e perfino dei cocktail. La scelta non è tantissima, ma ci si può sia fare colazione sia mangiare e ci sono anche prodotti vegani e vegetariani.
Visto che quando siamo arrivate il locale era ancora mezzo vuoto il servizio è stato abbastanza veloce.
I prezzi non sono convenientissimi, ma nemmeno atroci. Nel conto è incluso anche 1€ di coperto catalogato come cat therapy. Vista la particolarità del locale e che ci si può anche mangiare, mi è parso corretto.

As for the food, as we already ate, both I and my friend just took an amaretto catpuccino (3.50€). The amaretto aroma was clearly a syrup, but we were given a big mug of it and we loved it. We found the mug with the logo of the cafè, but especially the cups in the shape of cats where were served hot chocolate and coffee, really cute.
The various cups and pins with the logo of the cafè are also sold at the checkout.
In addition to the cafè-like products, on the menu there is some sweet, some warm and cold dish, some sandwiches and even some cocktails. There isn't a lot of choice, but you have both breakfast or a meal and there are also vegan and vegetarian dishes.
As when we arrived the place was still half empty the service was fast enough.
The prices are not cheap, but not super high either. In the bill there is also 1€ of table charge listed as cat therapy. Considering the particularity of the local and that you can also eat there, I tought it was ok.

Orange (Ichigo Takano)
"Orange" è un manga di Ichigo Takano edito dal 2012 su Bessatsu Margaret e poi, dopo un'interruzione di più di un anno (l'autrice voleva abbandonare la carriera di fumettista), su Futabasha dal 2014 al 2015. E' stato raccolto in cinque volumetti. In madrepatria ha riscosso un discreto successo e nel 2015 ne è stato tratto un film live action.
Naho, la liceale diciassettenne protagonista di questo manga, riceve una lettera dalla sé stessa di dieci anni nel futuro. La lettera descrive perfettamente gli avvenimenti della giornata prima che avvengano, fra cui il trasferimento nella classe di Naho di un nuovo studente, Kakeru, e prega la ragazza di seguire i suoi consigli per evitare di avere rimpianti in seguito, ma soprattutto per salvare Kakeru, che nel futuro da cui viene la lettera sarà morto.
La storia è molto coinvolgente a causa del mistero della lettera e della corsa contro il tempo per salvare Kakeru, che la trasforma quasi in un thriller. Per il resto è un classico shojo scolastico e anzi, le parti romantiche sono di un'ingenuità quasi imbarazzante tenendo conto dell'età dei protagonisti.
Per l'espediente della lettera Takano tenta una spiegazione scientificamente plausibile, cosa che ho apprezzato molto visto che spesso i fumetti giapponesi lasciano senza spiegazione (o con spiegazioni campate per aria) anche elementi molto rilevanti per la trama.
Naho, Takeru e Suwa, il migliore amico di Naho, sono personaggi a tutto tondo, dotati di spessore e umanità, mentre gli altri tre membri del gruppetto sono poco approfonditi.
I disegni sono interessanti, i personaggi hanno corpi molto magri, piedi piccoli e tratti del volto più realistici della media dei manga (realismo che in alcuni casi diventa uno svantaggio, visto che alcune espressioni risultano poco convincenti). Gli sfondi sono pochi e abbastanza generici, ma nel contesto funzionano bene. In generale è uno stile abbastanza sobrio, in linea con l'atmosfera del manga.
In generale mi è piaciuto molto, ho trovato la storia originale e coinvolgente. Ha dei difetti, ma, dato il numero di volumi limitato, è stato fatto comunque un ottimo lavoro. Peraltro pur essendo uno shojo con situazioni di forte impatto emotivo, non punta sulla lacrima a tutti i costi, cosa che ho apprezzato. Lo consiglio senz'altro!
Ringrazio Claire che mi ha invogliato a leggerlo classificandolo come suo manga preferito del 2015.
"Orange" is a manga by Ichigo Takano published from 2012 on Bessatsu Margaret and then, after a break of more than a year (the author wanted to abandon her career as a comic artist), on Futabasha from 2014 to 2015. It been collected in five volumes. In its motherland it was quite a success and in 2015 it was made into a live action film.
Naho, the seventeen year old high school girl protagonist of this manga, receives a letter from herself ten years into the future. The letter describes perfectly the day's events before they occur, including the transfer of a new student, Kakeru, in Naho's class and pray the girl to follow its advices to avoid having regrets later on, but also to save Kakeru, that in the future in which is the letter was written will be dead.
The story is very engaging because of the mystery of the letter and the race against time to save Kakeru, that becomes almost a thriller. The rest is a classic scholastic shojo and indeed, the romantic parts are almost embarrassingly naive, considering the age of the protagonists.
Takano tries a scientifically plausible explanation for the letter, which I liked as often Japanese comics leave plot devices, also relevant ones, without explanation (or give airy-fairy explanations).
Naho, Takeru and Suwa, Naho's best friend, are well-rounded characters, with depth and humanity, while the other three members of the group remain a bit flat.
The drawings are interesting, the characters have very thin bodies, small feet, and facial features that are more realistic than in the average manga (this realism in some cases it becomes a disadvantage, as some expressions are not very convincing). There are few and fairly generic backgrounds, but in the context of work well. In general it is a quite sober style, fit for the atmosphere of the manga.
Overall I really enjoyed it, I found the story original and engaging. It has flaws, but given the limited number of volumes, was done a great job anyway. However, despite being a shojo with situations with strong emotional impact, it doesn't want to make the reader cry at all costs, which I liked. I would definitely recommend it!
Thanks Claire who enticed me to read this manga classifying it as her favorite 2015 manga.

Il mio Dicembre via Instagram/My December via Instagram
Questo Dicembre è uscito il secondo numero di Julienne, la rivista di cucina per cui lavoro, e ho anche partecipato alla creazione di un calendario 2016 con Cargo, il collettivo di fumettisti di cui faccio parte.
This December was released the second issue of Julienne, the cooking magazine I work for, and I also participated in the creation of a 2016 calendar with Cargo, the cartoonists' collective I'm a part of.
Ho anche partecipato ad uno swap party ricchissimo ospitato da una mia amica.
I also participated to an abundant swap party hosted by a friend of mine.
Ovviamente non potevo lasciarmi scappare l'Artigiano in fiera, a cui ho comprato un sacco di regali, qualche sciocchezza per me e soprattutto ho mangiato come un maiale.
Of course I could not miss the Artisan fair, at which I bought a lot of gifts, some whatnots for me and where above all I ate like a pig.
Uno degli argomenti salienti del mese è stato Star Wars. Io e i miei amici abbiamo fatto una maratona di tutti e sei i vecchi film e siamo andati a vedere quello nuovo appena dopo l'uscita, che, seppur con delle riserve, a me è piaciuto.
One of the highlights of the month was Star Wars. My friends and I did a marathon of all six old movies and went to watch the new one soon after the release, that, even if it has some flaw, I liked.
Da metà mese sono stata sommersa di lavoro e Natale è arrivato senza che quasi me ne accorgessi. Ho mangiato un sacco di cose buone e ho ricevuto tantissimi bei regali!
From the middle of th month I was overwhelmed with work and Christmas came almost without I noticed. I ate a lot of good things and I received many beautiful presents!
A fine anno sono andata per la prima volta ad un cat cafè, il Crazy Cat Cafè che ha da poco aperto a Milano. E' stato molto carino.
At the end of the year, I went for the first time to a cat cafe, the Crazy Cat Cafe that just opened in Milan. It was very nice.
Ho passato capodanno sul lago Maggiore con il mio fidanzato e i miei amici mangiando e giocando a Zombiecide Black Plague. E' stato divertente.
I spent New Year's Eve on Maggiore Lake with my boyfriend and my friends eating and playing Zombiecide Black Plague. It was fun.
Come sempre Dicembre è stato un mese di grandi mangiate. Ancora una volta ho raggiunto il mio peso forma solo per fargli ciao ciao con la manina da una nuvola di antipasti sfiziosi, tortellini e quant'altro. Non posso negare che me la sono goduta parecchio.
As always December was a month of giant meals. Once more I reached my ideal weight just to wave goodbye at it from a cloud of appetizers, tortellini and a lot more. I can't deny that I enjoyed it a lot.
Il mio capodanno/My New Year's Eve
Io, il mio ragazzo e i nostri amici abbiamo passato il capodanno nella casa sopra il lago Maggiore di un nostro amico.
Non ho nessuna foto del mio outfit tranne questa. A casa del nostro amico fa sempre freddo quindi avevo due maglioni, i leggings e gli scaldamuscoli.
Me, my boyfriend and our friends spent New Year's Eve above Lake Maggiore in the house of a friend.
I have no pictures of my outfit except this one. Our friend's house is always cold so I had two sweaters, leggings and leg warmers.
Abbiamo cominciato con un antipasto di olive piccanti e tartine a salmone e paté.
We started with an appetizer of spicy olives and canapes with salmon and pâté.
Poi abbiamo inaugurato Zombiecide Black Plague, la variante ambientata in un medioevo fantastico dell'omonimo gioco in scatola. Abbiamo capito facilmente le varianti delle regole e abbiamo vinto la prima partita senza problemi, ma ci abbiamo messo comunque il doppio del tempo indicato sulla scatola. Rispetto allo Zombiecide standard è un gioco molto più combattivo e meno volto alla fuga perché i personaggi sono più forti delle loro controparti del futuro. In compenso ci sono più zombie e più cattivi.
Then we played for the first time Zombiecide Black Plague, the variant set in fantastic Middle Ages of the eponymous board game. We understood easily the new rules and we won the first game without problems, but it still took us double the time written on the on the box. Compared to the standard Zombiecide is a much more combative game because the characters are stronger than their counterparts in the future. On the other hand there are more zombies and more evil ones.
Un nostro amico ha preparato il cotechino in crosta, composto da un cotechino avvolto da una crema di lenticchie in un guscio di pasta sfoglia. E' piaciuto molto perfino a me che non sono un'amante del cotechino.
A friend of ours prepared cotechino in crust (cotechino is gelatinous pork sausage in a natural casing, and it's a typical food aten on New Year's Eve in Italy), consisting of a cotechino wrapped in a lentils cream in a puff pastry shell. I loved it even if usually I don't like cotechino so much.
A mezzanotte abbiamo visto qualche fuoco d'artificio lontano sul lago e acceso delle stelline.
At midnight we saw some fireworks on the lake and lighted some sparklers.
Abbiamo brindato e mangiato panettone e pandoro con crema al mascarpone aromatizzata al limoncello e all'amaretto.
Poi abbiamo giocato una nuova partita a Zombiecide (che abbiamo perso miseramente), durata fino alle 4.
E il vostro capodanno com'è andato?
We drank and ate Pandoro and Panettone with mascarpone cream flavored with limoncello and amaretto.
Then we played a new game of Zombiecide (we lost miserably) that lasted until 4 in the morning.

Buoni propositi per il 2016/My goals for 2016
- Il punto dolente è sempre il lavoro, ma in queste cose oltre all'impegno ci vuole anche un po' di fortuna. L'unica cosa che posso fare è cercare di essere più intraprendente nella ricerca di nuovi lavori.
- Donare il sangue. Ormai è troppo che non lo faccio, è decisamente arrivato il momento di riprendere.
- Stabilizzare il mio peso. Non ne posso più di fare due diete all'anno, una dopo Natale e una dopo l'estate, mi piacerebbe raggiungere un equilibrio.
- Esercitarmi con tecniche diverse di illustrazione
- Prendermi più cura di me stessa. Nell'ultimo mese ho avuto davvero poca voglia di cucinare per me stessa e di vestirmi carina. Sono piccolezze, ma aiutano a sentirsi bene.
- Rimettermi in pari con i libri cartacei, o almeno leggere qualcuno di quelli che vegetano nella mia libreria da più di un anno. Il Kindle è tanto più pratico da portare in giro e io ormai leggo soprattutto in palestra e sui mezzi, ma ho dei libri bellissimi che prendono la polvere ed è un peccato.
- Essere più rilassata e positiva. Ho già fatto progressi, ma c'è ancora molta strada per diventare il maestro zen che vorrei essere.
2015 went very well and I realized many goals of the previous years. Here are my 2016 ones:
- The sore point is always work, but in this field in addition to dedication you need a little of luck. The only thing I can do is to try to be more enterprising in finding new jobs.
- Donate blood. It is too much that I don't do it, it is definitely time to start again.
- Stabilize my weight. I'm sick of doing two diets a year, one after Christmas and one after summer, I'd like to find a balance.
- Practice different illustration techniques
- Take care of myself better. Last month I had very little desire to cook for myself and to dress nicely. They are little things, but help to feel good.
- Catch up with paper books, or at least read some of those which vegetate in my library for more than a year. Kindle is much more convenient to carry around and I in this period I mostly read in the gym and on the public transport, but I have some nice books accumulating dust and it's a shame.
- Be more relaxed and positive. I already made some progress, but there is still a long way to become the Zen master I would like to be.
