Vecchi che fanno esplodere le cose! Elefanti!

Old man who blow up stuff! Elephants! A suitcase full of money!
This in short is the plot of "The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared", a 2013 film directed by Felix Herngren and based on the novel of the same name by the swedish writer Jonas Jonasson (which I reviewed here).
The book was one of my funniest readings of 2014 (in fact, I was thinking of reading it again, which for me in recent years is a rarity), so I absolutely wanted to watch the film.
With the script it was made a brave choice : instead of simplifying the plot to keep it all in a couple of hours, there have been completely cut off some parts to make the others very faithfully. of the two timelines, the present, in which the centenary Allan runs from the hospice, has been kept almost completely, while the biggest cuts were done to the story of his life. The episodic nature of the book definitely helped with the success of this operation.
Unfortunately, although the movie is nice and funny, it doesn't bear comparison with the devastating humor of the novel. Another a negative note for Benny's hair, that in the book was long.
It's a nice movie that I recommend, perhaps accompanied by wine and a carbonara pasta. But honestly, if you have to choose, my advice is to rather read the book. And if you want enjoy both versions, I think is better to first read the novel.

Io l'ho trovato ben fatto.
