Piperita Patty al supermercato: biscottini al cocco Havanito

Io ADORO il cocco. E adoro i biscottini al cocco Havanito. Sono fatti con ingredienti naturali (ma anche con tantissimo zucchero, siete avvertiti) e prodotti in Belgio. Non costano pochissimo, ma nemmeno tantissimo e ogni tanto si trovano in offerta. Io lo ho trovati in più di un supermercato.

La ragazza con l'orecchino di perla (Chevalier)/Girl with a pearl earring (Chevalier)

"La ragazza con l'orecchino di perla" è il più famoso romanzo di Tracy Chevalier, probabilmente perché ne è stato tratto un film (molto fedele e ben fatto) con Scarlett Johansson e Colin Firth.
La Chevalier è famosa per scrivere romanzi storici molto ben documentati che traggono spunto da opere d'arte e con al centro figure femminili forti. Ho già recensito due suoi romanzi, Strane Creature e La dama e l'unicorno e anche se i suoi romanzi hanno qualche punto debole, ormai mi è chiaro di essermi innamorata dell'autrice: trovo i suoi romanzi estremamente appassionanti e ogni volta che ne inizio uno non riesco a smettere. Per ora quello che mi ha coinvolto di più è stato La dama e l'unicorno, anche se gli altri due erano scritti meglio.
Ma parliamo di "La ragazza con l'orecchino di perla": il romanzo prende lo spunto dall'omonimo dipinto di Vermeer, famosissimo pittore olandese del 1600 della cui vita si conosce molto poco. La Chevalier inventa la storia della misteriosa ragazza raffigurata nel quadro: prende così vita la vicenda di Griet, sedicenne di Deft costretta dai problemi economici della sua famiglia ad andare a fare la cameriera in casa Vermeer. Come al solito nei romanzi dell'autrice, colpisce l'ottima resa dell'ambientazione, non solo della quotidianità di una piccola cittadina dell'Olanda del '600, ma soprattutto delle regole di comportamento: quello che per la protagonista è ovvio a noi sembra strano, ma nel racconto non si sentono forzature.
Il pittore rimane sullo sfondo come una figura enigmatica, anche se ci sono riferimenti a molti suoi quadri celebri. Gli altri personaggi, invece, sono ricchi di spessore e ben gestiti. Tuttavia la protagonista è un personaggio con cui è difficile sintonizzarsi, sia per la poca immediatezza delle problematiche sociali seicentesche per il lettore contemporaneo, sia per il suo carattere, che sotto una facciata quieta, nasconde, spesso anche a chi legge, passioni profonde e distruttive.
Lo consiglio, e chi non fosse convinto può provare a recuperare il film.

"Girl with a Pearl Earring" is the most famous novel by Tracy Chevalier, probably because it was made into a movie (very faithful and well done), starring Scarlett Johansson and Colin Firth.
Chevalier is famous for writing very well documented historical novels that draw inspiration from works of art, with strong female figures at the center. I have already reviewed two of her novels, Strange Creatures and The Lady and the Unicorn and although her style have some weak point, now I understood clearly that I'm in love with the author: I find her novels extremely fascinating and every time I start one I can't stop reading it. For now the one that involved more was The Lady and the Unicorn, although the other two were written better.
But let's talk about "Girl with a Pearl Earring". The novel is inspired by the homonymous painting by Vermeer, a famous Dutch painter of the 1600s whose life very little is known. Chevalier invented the story of the mysterious girl in the painting: so the story of Griet, a sixteen year old Deft forced by economic problems in her family to go in the Vermeer house as a maid takes life. As usual in the novels of the author, it's remarkable the stydy of the setting, not only the daily life of a small town in Holland of 600, but even more of the rules of behavior: what  is obvious for the protagonist seems strange to us, but does not feel forced in the narration.
The painter remains in the background as an enigmatic figure, although there are references to many of his famous paintings. The other characters, however, are deep and well managed. However, the main character is a character with whom it is difficult to tune, both for the lack of immediacy of seventeenth century's social rules to the contemporary reader, and for her character, which under a facade of quietness, hid, often even to the reader, deep  and destructive passions.
I recommend it, and those who were not convinced can try to watch the film.

Shaun la pecora da Mc Donalds

Non so se siete fan di Shaun la pecora (io ammetto di aver visto ben poco del cartone e di apprezzarlo soprattutto per il merchandising). In caso vi segnalo che da Mc Donalds, con gli happy meal si ricevono in regalo gli attrezzi da cucina di Shaun. Io ho avuto il frullino (che non ho ben capito, ma credo debba produrre schiumetta nelle bevande), ma quello che vorrei davvero è il bento!

 

Here in Italy Mc Donalds is putting Shaun the Sheep gifts in the happy meals! I got the whisk (I still don't understand well what it is meant for, I suppose for creating foam in drinks), but my favourite was the bento!

Kraken di carta

In classe al corso di fumetto abbiamo fatto un esercizio di composizione visiva che consisteva nel riprodurre un brano di una favola con figure di carta a strappo. Mi sono divertita come una bambina di 5 anni!!!
Appena riuscirò a scannerizzarlo (il foglio è enorme) vi mostrerò anche il risultato finale.

 

At my comic school we did an exercise of visual composition that that consisted in reproducing a part of a fairy tale with tear-off paper figures. I enjoyed it as a 5 year old girl!
As soon as I can scan it (the sheet is huge) I will show you also the final result.

Come fare una borsa a forma di animale/How to make an animal shaped bag

Ognuno sogna una borsetta o un astuccio a forma del proprio animale preferito. Come sapete il mio è la balena, per cui mi sono cimentata nella realizzazione di una borsetta a forma di balena, che peraltro funziona benissimo con il vestito e gli accessori da me realizzati dedicati a Moby Dick!

Temo che la borsa non sia ad un buon livello sartoriale, in compenso è abbastanza facile da realizzare e viene bene ^^

Difficoltà: media. Richieste capacità basiche di cucito o utilizzo della macchina da cucire.

Necessario: stoffa robusta per l'esterno, stoffa per fodera, bottoni, cerniera, nastro robusto o stoffa per il manico, necessario per cucire, ornamenti a piacere

Everyone dreams of a bag or a purse in the shape of his favorite animal. As you know mine is whale, so I ventured in the creation of a handbag in the shape of a whale, which also works great with the dress and accessories dedicated to Moby Dick I made!
I am afraid that the bag is not at a good tailoring level, but on the other hand it is quite easy to make and it looks nice ^^

Difficulty: middle level. Basic sewing or sewing machine utilization skills needed.
Materials: strong fabric for the outer, fabric for the lining, buttons, zipper, sturdy ribbon or fabric for the handle, necessary to sew, ornaments as you please

 

Per l'esterno della borsa io ho usato del pile, per l'interno stoffa di cotone proveniente da un lenzuolo rotto.

Disponete due strati di stoffa per l'esterno della borsa, con il dritto verso l'interno, fra due strati di stoffa per la fodera, con il dritto verso l'esterno. Tagliate nella forma dell'animale desiderato, lasciando un centimetro circa per la cucitura.

 

For the outside of the bag I used pile, for the inside cotton fabric from a ripped bedsheet.
Place the two layers of the fabric for the outside of the bag, with the right sides inward, between two layers of the fabric for the lining, right side out. Cut into desired animal shape, leaving about an inch for the seam.

Fate una cucitura molto robusta lungo tutto il bordo tranne un pezzo lungo quanto la cerniera più un paio di centimetri sul lato superiore.

Rivoltate il tutto e dovreste ottenere il risultato in foto. All'interno della borsa la fodera sarà al dritto.

 

Make a very sturdy stitching along the edge except for a piece as long as the zipper plus a couple of centimeters on the upper side.
Turn inside out the whole thing and you should get the result in the picture. Inside the bag lining should be on the right side.

Aggiungete la cerniera nello spazio che avete appositamente lasciato.

 

Add the zipper in the space you left for it.

Fate il manico utilizzando un nastro robusto, una vecchia cintura o la stessa stoffa dell'esterno della borsa (in questo caso consiglio di fare una striscia lunga quanto volete lungo il manico, larga il doppio della larghezza desiderata più due centimetri, piegarla a metà lungo il lato lungo, cucire sul bordo e rigirarla).

Io ho usato della lana pelosa intrecciata, ma temo non sia stata una buona idea, non credo sia molto robusta.

Cucite il manico nello spazio rimasto ai lati della cerniera.

 

Make the handle using a strong ribbon, an old belt or the same fabric of the exterior of the bag (in this case I recommend to do a strip as long as you want the handle and wide double the desired width plus two centimeters, then fold it in half along the long side, sew the edge and turn it inside out).
I used woven hairyyarn , but I'm afraid it was not a good idea, I do not think it is very strong.
Sew the handle in the remaining space on the sides of the zipper.

Aggiungete i particolari: occhi, pinne, baffi e quant'altro.

 

Add details: eyes, fins, whiskers and so on.

 

 Finita! Non vi resta che riempirla e andarci a spasso!

 

Finished! Now you only have to fill it and wear it around!

Rose e tulle/Roses and tulle

Giacca e gonna sono presi alle bancarelle dell'usato, il cardigan viene dal Messico e il resto da mercati e negozietti.
Questo outfit mi piace, ma alla fine per uscire ho lasciato a casa la giacchetta vintage. L'ho presa da un anno, ma non so mai come abbinarla. Con il tutù stava bene, però mi sembrava "troppo".
Forse dovrei iniziare mettendola con i jeans, voi che ne dite?

Jacket and skirt come from used clothes stalls, the cardigan from Mexico and the rest from markets and shops.
I like this outfit, but in the end I left the vintage jacket home to go out. I bought it a year ago, but I never know how to wear it. With the tutu it looked fine, but it seemed "too much".
Maybe I should start by wearing it with jeans, what do you think?

Oblivion

Oblivion è un film fantascientifico con Tom Cruise, ambientato in una Terra post-apocalittica. Infatti è stata devastata da invasori alieni e gli umani dopo averli sconfitti si sono dovuti trasferire su Titano perché il pianeta era diventato inabitabile. O almeno, questo è ciò che Jack Harper (Tom Cruise), rimasto sulla Terra come riparatore di droni, sa. Ma frammenti di ricordi che sa di non poter avere riaffiorano durante i sogni...

Oblivion prova un colpo di scena un po'alla Matrix, ma anche se è un film fatto bene e che mi è piaciuto, ho avuto l'impressione che su molti fronti rimanesse su scala minore. E' comunque più che sufficiente.

Avrei giusto evitato (o sbudellato) la coppia che parlava a voce alta e usava lo smartphone con il volume proprio di fianco a me -.-

It was devastated by invading aliens and the humans after defeating them had to move on Titan because the planet had become uninhabitable. Oblivion tries a Matrix-like twist, but even if it is a well done film and I liked it, I had the impression that on many fronts it remains on a smaller scale. It 'still more than passing.

I just would have avoided (or gutted) the couple who spoke loudly and used the phone with the volume on right next to me -.-
