"Stelle cadenti" (Moving Pictures) è un romanzo del 1990 di Terry Pratchett, il decimo della serie del Mondo Disco.
La trama: gli alchimisti del Mondo Disco inventano il cinema e nella cittadina di Holy Wood, vicino alla capitale Ank-Morkpork, sorge un'industria cinematografica che attira personaggi di ogni genere, dagli aspiranti attori agli speculatori senza scrupoli. Ma non tutto è quel che sembra, infatti alla nuova industria sembra essere legato il risveglio di forze oscure. I protagonisti sono gli attori Victor e Ginger, provenienti rispettivamente dall'università per maghi e da una fattoria in un paesino sconosciuto, l'avido Mi Voglio Rovinare Dibbler, Gaspode il cane prodigio e tanti altri, di cui alcuni si ritrovano in altri libri della serie. Nonostante questo, il romanzo è comprensibile anche senza averli letti e soprattutto la trama si conclude all'interno di un unico volume.
Sostanzialmente si tratta di una parodia del mondo di Hollywood, con riferimenti di ogni tipo, da "King Kong" a "Via col vento" ai cartoni animati.
L'ho trovato molto divertente, con prese in giro sempre azzeccate e una trama che scorre come un meccanismo ben oliato in cui non manca niente: amore, azione, magia...
Essendo un libro di Pratchett è quasi inutile dirlo, ma è anche scritto benissimo.
I miei libri preferiti di Mondo Disco rimangono "Streghe in Vacanza" e "L'intrepida Tiffany e i Piccoli Uomini Liberi", ma questo ha guadagnato un posto molto alto nella graduatoria.

The main characters are the actors Victor and Ginger, respectively coming from the university for magicians and from a farm in an unknown village, the greedy Cut-Me-Own-Throat Dibbler, Gaspode the wonder dog and many others, some of which can be found in other books of series. Despite this, the novel an be understood without having read them, and, above all, the plot ends in a single volume.
Basically it is a parody of the world of Hollywood, with references of all kinds, from "King Kong" to "Gone with the Wind" to cartoons.
I found it very funny, with a humor that always hits the spot and a storyline that works like a well oiled machine and that doesn't miss enything: love, action, magic...
Being a book by Pratchett is almost needless to say, but it is also very well written.
My favorite Discworld books remain "Witches Abroad" and "The Wee Free Men", but this has gained a very high place on my list.
