Michel Kichka is one of the most important israeli comic artist. Having Belgian origins he writes in both Hebrew and French.
"Second generation" is his first graphic novel. It was published in 2012 and tells of the author's and his family's relationship with the fact that his father had survived the concentration camps, starting from his childhood and arriving to the present. I found the topic very interesting as the works about the Nazi concentration camps are numerous, but very little has been said about the post and even less on the trauma of being sons of survivors.
The reference that immediately comes to mind is Maus by Spigelmann, but in reality the two works are quite different, because this one focuses only on the second generation, without telling the dramatic experience of the father except through what is perceived by the protagonist.
The drawings are very different too: I found very interesting the choice of rounded drawings and comic-grotesque characters to represent a dramatic them . Whatever your opinion about it, however the skill of the artist is undeniable.
I recommend it to anyone interested in the topic.
