"Serial (Bad) Weddings" (in the original "Qu'est-ce qu'on fait au Bon Dieu"?) is a 2014 French comic film by Philippe de Chauveron.
It's about three french sisters who marry men of foreign origin and of different religions and ethnic groups, to the dismay of their bourgeois, catholic and gaullists parents. The two put their hopes in the fourth and last doughter, but they will have a surprise...
There are many movies that propose love as a means of overcoming identity conflicts but of this genre I like especially the french ones, both because the French know closely the problem (let's just mention the banlieue), and because they still face it with a strong influence of the ideals of the Revolution.
The film plays on the thin ice of the plotically scorrect succeeding despite the cliches in creating a comedy that is lively, and at the same time reassuring, very well filmed and acted.
If I really have to make critics, the comedy is structurally similar to others of the same kind and does not address social and economic problems because the "others" all belong to the middle class. In addition, two of the sisters are almost not characterized.
But in my opinion that is to nitpick a film that is a comedy of intelligent entertainment that more than making the audience think about the issue of integration wants to downplay it. I found it really nice and funny and I definitely recommend it to an audience of all ages!
