I cavalieri dello zodiaco

I admit it: I saw "Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary" to laugh since from the trailer I had the impression that it was crap. It's a 2014 CGI animated film by Toei Animation that once again resumes the saga of anime and manga "Saint Seiya" by Masami Kurumada which had already been made in five films (not talking about video games, gadgets and the like).
This film aims to condense the entire first series of the anime. It follows the story of Isabel, who at the age of 16 turns out to be the reincarnation of the goddess Athena (for those who had never seen anything of the series: it has nothing to do with Greek mythology) and to have knights bred to protect her: Pegasus, Sirius, Andromeda and Crystal. However, an usurper has taken her place supported by the high priest, and by most of the high rank knights. In addition, the high priest has sent assassins to kill her. So begins the journey of Isabel and her knights through the twelve houses of the zodiac to the temple to proclaim her legitimacy.
The CGI is not too bad, but it's still a little plastic-like and not so detailed compared to wonders like Space Pirate Captain Harlock.
Compared to the original, the characters design have changed, even a lot in the case of secondary chearacters (there's a woman knight, one with glasses...). Even the characters are somewhat different: Pegasus is a moron kid, Cancer is a ridiculous super theatrical blowhard and so on, while the part of Lady Isabel has been extended, but she still has the expressiveness of a nightstand. Even the armor cases became Sailor Moon style transformation medals.
It seems that  Kurumada agreed with these changes (!).
The super simplified characters and absurd comic interludes make me think that this film is intended to a very very young target (8-12 years). If you do not fit in the target I do not recommend it: it is neither nice enough to be noticeable, nor bad in the right way to be comical. I advice against it especially if you're a fan of the original work and you don't want to see your childhood raped (you should have seen the horrified expressions of my Hairy Half watching the film).
The only parts worth seeing are the ones with Sirius and Gemini shirtless.

Decisamente pupazzoso.
