It all started when I saw this skirt on pinterest. I thought it was cute and that it should not be so hard to make my own version. Then I gave up for months, due to the difficulty in finding the right lace.

This summer, however, I found a giant doily for 4 € at the market, on a stall selling used tablecloths, curtains and the like.

I postponed again until I finally decided to make my skirt. First I made the base following the usual method of simple antisartorial skirt without adding pockets because I knew that they would have been covered by lace.

The only change was the addition of pom pom trim.

Now came the tricky part: I cut away the center of the doily until it was wide enough for my hips (attention, when you cut lace fabric, it tends to widen, so it's better to stay tight and cut again eventually) .
Then I sewed it to the skirt along the cut with extreme care, sewing each thread of the doily and fixing the intersections with knots in order to prevent it from unraveling.

And here's the result: the skirt is slightly shorter than the one that inspired me and it's completely covered with lace, but I like it even more. On the other hand if I were to do it again I'd tuck the lace into the skirt along the cut to hide the not so refined seam.
