Lupin III: la pietra della saggezza/The Mystery of Mamo

Lately, influenced by Babol, I'm watching various Lupin III film. In the group, "The Mystery of Mamo" impressed me for its originality.
It's a 1968 animated film, and is the first starring Lupin III, the thief created by the Japanese comic artist Monkey Punch. It was directed by Sōji Yoshikawa for Tokyo Movie Shinsha. Various team members of the first Lupin III anime series worked on it, with the intention of creating a product as much faithfu as possiblel to the manga.
By now I am used to the fact that in the Lupin III films there are a series of fixed elements: the betrayals of Fujiko and another girl to save stealing an object or solving a problem, an evil organization to defeat. "The Mystery of Mamo" stands out for a number of elements different from the later films. The beginning is striking: Lupin dies hanged. Plus, the only woman in the film is Fujiko, with some interesting differences compared to her normal behavior and some more uncensored boobs than usual (although it's the oldest film!). The antagonist is very well studied and the mistery of his nature is a cliff-hanger till the last minute.
I absolutely recommend this film!

I watched one of the later films and really liked it! It's really stylish. Unfortunately, he mostly seems to be advertising pachinko parlours in Japan right now... ^^;;

@Rhiannon: it's really a pity!
