Almost Human

"Almost Human" it is an U.S.A. television sci-fi detective series aired between 2013 and 2014 on Fox television network. It's composed by a season of 13 episodes of 41 minutes each.
It's set in 2048. The main character is detective John Kennex, who, because of an attack by organized crime in which all his team died, went into a coma for more than a year and lost a leg. When he wakes up he finds himself with an artificial leg and missing memories, and is obsessed by the idea of getting revenge by capturing the people who planned attack. So he gets back into the police. All agents are assigned a robot companion, but Kennex hates the MX, too logical and cold, who left his wounded companion during the attack, so he destroys the one assigned to him. In its place he is given Dorian (played by the hottie Michael Ealy), an older model of the DRN series, considered defective because of the failures caused by an attempt to give them a kind of "artificial soul".
Each episode focuses on a case and is self-contained, but there is also a hint of a more general plot, mainly linked to John's desire for revenge.
The various investigations are compelling, but, apart from the science fiction side, are not anything original. The special effects are well done. The characters are believable, but apart from Dorian, also quite stereotyped, and therefore not particularly interesting. Despite this, it would be worthwhile to see "Almost Human" just for the relationship between the two cops, of "the odd couple" kind, with lots of funny scenes that make even the grim Kennex, who always poses as a tough guy, seem likeable. But what brings "Almost Human" to the next level is the relationship of John with his partner's being a robot and especially the ambivalence of Dorian regarding the fact of being an artificial being with emotions.
The two characters, their relationships and their profession remind of the lead couple of Asimov's Robot Series, the human policeman Elijah Baley and the robot R. Daneel Olivaw, who I really loved.
According to the rumors, Fox, not convinced by the viewing reates, decided to cancel the show after the first season, but I hope that before or later there will be a follow up because I liked"Almost Human" a lot , but also because there are some pending issues that I would like to see clarified. Since fortunately they aren't many, I definitely recommend this show, especially if you like science fiction and/or detective stories and appreciate the works in which two very different characters reluctantly have to work together.
