Timeline (film)

I finally watched the movie "Timeline", based on Michael Crichton's novel with the same name, which I read with pleasure last summer (you can find my review here). The film was shot in 2003 by Richard Donner.
The plot, tough simplified, follows that of the book. A group of young archaeologists who are excavating in the village of Castelgard, in France, does an impossible discovery: the glasses and a help message of the professor who leads the excavations, clearly from the middle ages.
The cuts and changes made to transform the novel into a film cause some wtf moments (in the Middle Ages was spoken the same English and French of today?), but also more rhytm and a more rational motivation for the actions of the multinational which supports the excavations.
Some characters gain in humanity (Chris, Marek), others lose depth (the professor, Doninger, the physicist, François), but most remain essentially flat.
In short, it is a good U.S.A. action film, with a beautiful setting and a bit of romance.
Among the actors there is Gerard Butler in his hottest period.
