Weekend in London: day 3

On Sunday morning, we met at Camden Town station with our newlywed friends with the idea of having breakfast together. However, since it was bank holyday, everything was pretty much closed and we ended up going to an "italian" place that for breakfast offered pasta with soup! Of course we avoided the pasta and had a full english breakfast.

After the savory breakfast we went, in pure hobbit style, to have a sweet one in 91/92 Camden Lock Place, at the first branch of Yumchaa, a famous tea place, which according to our friends we definitely had to try. In fact I finally managed to drink a really good chai latte and my raspberries and white chocolate muffin was truly delicious. I also had a taste of the velvet cake, of the caramel cake and of the carrot cake, which were all really good.

Around 11 'o clock we had to go away because we booked a visit of the western part of Highgate Cemetery, the Victorian one, which can be visited only by joining a tour, but it is also the most interesting one (£12).
Maybe to visit cemeteries sounds a bit spooky, but this ine is famous for its beauty and for the famous people who are buried there. Furthermore it inspired the novel "Fallen Angel" by Tracy Chevalier, which I liked a lot (I reviewed it here).
The guide (in English only) showed us the most famous areas and graves and told us a lot of interesting anecdotes. My favorite was the one about the Victorian surgeon who performed perfect amputations in 2 and a half minutes.
The tour lasted about 70 minutes.

Some of the most famous tombs, however, were in the east part, that we visited just afterwards (admission £4, free with the west part tour ticket). There you will find Douglas Adams, George Eliot and Karl Marx's graves. The visit is much faster, about 20 minutes.
When we finished we were very late. We decided to avoid the pseudo-French restaurants, but we missed the bus and we had to wait a lot.
When we finally arrived we travelled all the line and walked a bit more to the Museum of London.

At that point we were very hungry and stopped at the Pret A Manger just in front of it that was the only open place and ate a pastry with cheese, ham and tomato, a very good duck meat wrap with and we drank pomegranate and hibiscus juice.
When winished eating we noticed with some regret that we did not have time to visit the museum (apart from a stop to the bathroom) and we rushed to Liverpool Street station to catch the bus to the airport, which of course was terribly late.

Once at Stansted we understood that karma was against us because the plane was late too.
We took this opportunity to visit the shops.

Once again we had dinner with Pret A Manger food: chicken and avocado sandwiches, salmon sandwiches and cheddar and red onion chips, accompanied by fruit juices by Ribena, a typical British brand (we tried mango and lime and cranberry).
We arrived in Milan so late that the subway was already closed, so we had to take the 91, the most infamous city bus, with shady looking people.
