Da camicia a gonna 2/From shirt to skirt 2

At the seaside I found one of my old shirts of the period in which I liked showy tropical prints. Having a fashion blog, I shouldn't admit even under torture I had a passion for gaudy shirts. But as you by now know, I'm not a serious person.

In fact, I still liked a lot the print and the colors, while the idea of a flashy shirt didn't attract me anymore. So I decided to salvage it, transforming it into something else. I opted for a skirt: tropical ones are perfect for summer!
At first I thought of following a simple method as I did in the past (you can find the tutorial here), but wearing the shirt as if it were a skirt with the collar on my waist I got another idea.

I cut the seams of the lower part of the sleeves and along the two sides of the shirt.
In this way I got someting wider and more comfortable on the sides because the part of the sleeves opened, leaving much more space around my backside.

At this point I sewed the two open sides of the sleeves each to the nearest open side of the bust.
Obviously the rectangle of the bust was longer than the part of the sleeves on the front and back.

At this point I could have cut off the protruding part of the rectangles of the bust and have a skirt all of the same length.
Instead I decided to keep it shorter on the sides and longer in front and behind, but rounding the protruding rectangles.
Transforming a shirt in a skirt with this method doesn't even need an elastic or the like on the waist because you just have to fasten the buttons (if they are strong and remain closed). As the neck becomes the waist, there still is the problem of what to do with the collar. I simply folded it inward as it was soft, but probably it would be better to cut off a stiff one.

L'orlo e via, gonna pronta!

I hemmed it and voilà, skirt ready! I think with this cut, and these colors it's perfect for summer!
But the same could be done with a long-sleeved shirt, maybe a flannel one to have a warm skirt for winter.
With this exact method you can also transform shirts in cloaks!
I think I'll never be able anymore to not buy the gaudy shirts that I find for 1€ at flea markets...

Two important caveats if you want to try to make a skirt with a shirt in this way:
- Make sure the sleeves are long enough to cover your butt when cut.
- The shirt that you choose shouldn't have shoulder pads or a stiff and defined stitch on the shoulders, otherwise you could find yourself with a skirt with strange angles on the sides.
