Vigevano's middle ages festival is an autumn event that I really like. Me and Hairy half had already been there in 2010 and 2012 and last year we finally tried the medieval dinner offered on the Saturday evening of the weekend of the festival. As the price, compared to other events of this kind, was contained (25 €) and we had liked it, this year we decided to repeat the experience with some friends.
We arrived slightly earlier for a walk into the city, which is always very nice.

In addition to the city we toured the stand dedicated to the ancient crafts, including some that were selling fantastic food, from which, however, as a precaution for dinner, I abstained.

Even this year the dinner was held in a large room near Sforzesco Castle, the tables were laid with plastic plates and cups that mimicked terracotta and the only cutlery was a wooden spoon (forks only really began to spread approximately after 1700) and as towel there was some sort of blouse with belt to put over clothes to avoid staining.
The appetizer consisted of a good vegetable pie, fried mushrooms, caramelized onions, crusty bread with red salad and a quail egg and tripe. The first course was a delicious cake made up of layers of pasta with soft and crunchy bacon and a saffron sauce. The second was a mixture of meat and beans, nothing special. The cake, however, was good, a pastry pie with apples and vanilla sauce.
Compared to last year the dinner disappointed us a little, both for the second course (but it seems the hotel management school in charge of cooking changed) and because compared to the year before there was a course less than a and less abundant first course.

Our suspicion is that they the funds for the event were lowered, also because there were fewer entertainers than last year. I am very happy that there wasn't the guy who insulted people in rhyme, but instead I was sorry there was not the hurdy-gurdy player.
During dinner, also this year, there were actors in costume who tried to enliven the evening with cameos of medieval life, including the excellent group of medieval dances of Biancofiore. But at mid-evening, the microphones were turned off or stopped working.

Unfortunately, it happened an event that I feared since I was little: I was chosen as a "voluntary" for a quite embarrassing number of the jester -.-'
Moreover, I may be a bigot, but after a bit raunchy jokes bother me. Fortunately, at least the jester added to them juggling and games of skill.

Instead, I loved the jugglers themselves, especially those who used fire.
Ultimately it was a nice evening, but since it was worse last year and some entertainment not convinced us, I think at least for the next year we will return to the stalls'food and daily entertainment.

I took advantage of the event to wear the dress I bought some time ago at the used Tyrolean clothes stall of Eustachi street market in Milan, that with the skirt of canvas, the leather bustier and the metal buttons looks quite medieval (and unfit for the 90% of normal social occasions).

@Chiave: eh, anch'io l'avevo pensato e probabilmente hai ragione.
