EXPO

On the 20th of July, I went to EXPO. Honestly I wasn't so interested in it, but living in the city that sheltered it, it seemed a waste not to go.
Despite rumors of kilometers long queques, we found very few people, probably because of the heat, and the longer queques we did were at the entrance (because we arrived half an hour before the opening) and at the Japanese pavilion where we waited 40 minutes to get in.
We made a plan choosing and discarding the pavilions according to the comments of all the relatives and friends who already went there:
Brazil
Japan
Oman
Kuwait
Germany
Austria
Switzerland
Israel
Azerbaijan
Korea
We put Brazil and Japan at the beginning even though they were far away because they were the ones threatening to have longer queques. Since there were few people, we could also see England and Russia. Instead Angola was highly recommended to us, but we forgot to visit it.
I quite enjoyed it, but in general my impression was that rather than focusing on the issue of feeding the world, the various countries were trying to prove that they were better than the others.

The famous hanging net of Brazil was very nice, too bad that the path was short and that it was forbidden to run or jump.

Puro stile giapponese.

Japan made a very artistic and technological show, beautiful if not particularly rich in content, and then spoiled the effect with a trash song about friendship at the table in the end. Pure Japanese style.

Oman was very exotic and nice, but I was very disappointed that they did not have duck kebab at the shack outside.

So we stopped to eat at a kiosk outside the Indonesia pavilion, that was highly recommended because it provided samples of four dishes (rice, pasta, omelette and chicken, all delicious) and a drink for only 10€, which is cheap for EXPO.

Kuwait was nice, but I was not particularly impressed by it.

Germany seemed the most serious country's about the topic. It showed what was being done in the country to protect the natural heritage and food and gave various ideas to also apply at home, including recipes to recycle leftovers, normal recipes, ideas for gardens made with recycled materials or in tight spaces... very interesting!
The main feature of the pavilion was that each visitor was delivered a small square of cardboard with sensors, that in certain areas could be used as a palmtop. Interesting idea, but not very practical with large crowds of people, as on July 20th even with few visitors we had to queue at various locations.

The famous Austria microclimate complete with forest of was very nice, but we didn't feel it as fresh as promised, indeed, the humidity made the heat even heavier.
After Austria we went to Switzerland where we booked tickets, which finished shortly after, to enter at 18:00 in the famous towers. Knowing that they finish the tickets so fast it's better go there as soon as possible.

Israel was highly recommended, but we had not realized that the interesting part of the pavilion was only the exterior with the vertical grain fields and not the inside, where we had to watch a video with a busty chick who explained how great Israelis were in agriculture (in fact there were a couple of interesting things, but that chick was unbearable).

L'Azerbaigian era molto carino esteticamente, ma secondo me senza grandi contenuti.

Azerbaijan was aesthetically very nice, but in my opinion without great content.

I absolutely wanted to see the China pavilion from outside because from the pictures it seemed wonderful, and I confirm that opinion. We did not enter because we heard the interior wasn't worth it.

Then I absolutely wanted to try the Belgium fries  because the child I tutor recommended them. FOr4€ they gave me a giant cone of fries with unlimited sauces that I really did struggle to finish. The fries were good, but overall normal, the interesting part were the sauces! Many unfortunately  were already finished (do the stalls guys get supplies?), but I still tried four that I had never tasted before.

Then we went to Korea, where there was a very technological exhibition, focused on food fermented in jars, typical of Korea, proposed as the food of the future. Interesting, but I found a bit too much to dedicate the whole pavilion to that theme.
The restaurant prices it seemed high for the portions served, but I could not resist to my beloved seaweed chips (2€) that helped me to digest the Belgium chips.

Since there was time left, we went to see the pavilion of England, connected to a beehive, which was quite interesting. There I the Hairy Half bought me a 2,50€ lemonade fromthat unfortunately wasn't anything special.
Then we returned to Switzerland to visit the famous towers, with various floors full of goods that visitors could take for free, but that are never supplied, to symbolize the exploitation of natural resources by man, a really appropriate idea.
Unfortunately, the glasses and dried apples, which were what interested me, were already finished on the open floor, so I left empty-handed.

The last pavilion we visited was that of Russia, that we found nice for the mad scientists like interiors and for socialist realism agricultural posters. At fixed times they distribute free food samples and we got vodka and a very good black bread with fish and sauce.
I fell in love with themascot, the matryoshka-bear Mishka.
After this pavilon, although we had more time, we declared ourselves satisfied and decided to go home.
