Villa Reale (Monza)

A late summer weekend, I and my friends organized a trip to Monza to see Villa Reale, a palace built at the end of the '700 by the Austrian rulers, that remained in a state of decay for about half a century and was recently restored and open to the public for free for 10 days, from the 8th to the 18th of September. Since the days of free opening were few, there were tremendous queues. I read that some people who had been in line for hours saw the doors of the villa close in their face and got so much angry that the management had to call the police.
In the morning, seeing the size of the queque, we decided to wait and come back after lunch, when there was a lot less people. We were lucky because, immediately after, the queque reformed even longer.

In the meantime, we took a walk around the old town which is very nice. We saw from the outside the arengario, the old town hall built in 1300.

Nearby is the famous cathedral, rebuilt in 1300, in which treasure lies the iron crown of the emperors of the Holy Roman Empire. We walked in and looked around, but we decided not to go to see the treasure, which we had all already seen on school trips, to avoid having to pay the ticket.

The center of Monza is really nice, I can only imagine how it is to live in an old building like that with the medallions in the picture.
In the center there is also a branch of "La città del sole", a shop specialized in toys, which I really like because at the entrance always has a robot teddy bear that makes soap bubbles.

For lunch we went to the nearby branch of another chain, Rosso Pomodoro. My mother hates it for some reason, so I never tried it. I was pleasantly surprised. They present themselves as creators of genuine and traditional food with ingredients of the highest quality. Compared to the promises perhaps the pizza could be even better, but it's definitely a good standard and you spend as in a normal pizza place. Their I liked it a lot their gassosa (a sweet fizzy lemon drink).

In the afternoon we finally got to visit the villa. It was still empty, with no exhibitions of any kind (which explains the free entry), but it was beautiful and interesting, a little Versailles of Lombardy.

What I enjoyed the most were the bathrooms, toilet, bathtub and everything, contained in...wardrobes! Why?
