War for the Oaks

Intrigued to the reference to this book found in Ironside by Holly Black (which I reviewed here), I recovered War for theOaks, another urban fantasy, one of the first.
It's a nice novel, not amazing, but I wanted to review it anyway because it is almost unknown in Italy (in fact, as far as I know it has never been translated).
It was written in 1987 (a year before I was born) by Emma Bull, writer, guitarist and singer.
The plot: Eddi McCandry leaves her boyfriend and the band in which both sang and played. But there is no end to the worst: the same evening she finds herself being stalked by a sinister guy and a scary dog, which turn out to be the same person! She finds herself being held hostage and being an essential part in a war between two factions of fairy creatures who contend Minneapolis.
The plot twists are predictable, but love and adventure are fairly well balanced. For my taste there is too much music in the sense that I would have done without the lyrics, but I realize that it is very subjective. Instead, the final battle just seemed anticlimactic, ot clashes with the earlier that were much more exciting.
I have enjoyed the very accurate descriptions of the clothes worn by the characters, that are now at least vintage (even if I do not mind Eddi's taste).
I realized that at the time this novel was quite innovative in its mix of fairies and rockers, with a tough protagonist and interracial loves, but nowadays it's nothing special.
I recommend it especially to those who are interested in the birth of the genre. The others can read it or not, is not a bad book, but not a great loss either.
To find out if you may be interested in ti you can watch the zero budget short movie based on the book at the end of the post, created by the author with various collaborators. But I have to warn you that it's full of spoilers.
