Capodanno/New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve has never been much my cup of tea. I work from a while, but I'm still calibrated on school years rather than on solar ones.
I'm not very fond of the classic style of celebration either, the one with a big dinner (does people really feel the need to binge so soon after Christmas?) and a lot of alcohol. Moreover I hate cotechino, the gelatinous pork sausage in a natural casing, traditionally aten in Italy in this occasion (but I really like lentils that are another traditional food, said to bring richness).

But this year I am particularly excited because I will go with some friends to a tiny town on Maggiore Lake, we will eat and we will play board games. In fact most of my New Years Eve pass in this way, but I'm looking forward to playing the new Zombiecide Black Plague, the medieval fantasy version of Zombiecide, my current favorite board game (you can find all the information on facebook and kickstarter).
But since every year I think my celebrations are always the same old boring ones, I tried to imagine how I would like to celebrate.

The poster shows a teenage boy coming out from a nearly invisible DeLorean with lines of fire trailing behind. The boy looks astonishingly at his wristwatch. The title of the film and the tagline "He was never in time for his classes... He wasn't in time for his dinner... Then one day... he wasn't in his time at all" appear at the extreme left of the poster, while the rating and the production credits appear at the bottom of the poster.
Festa a tema, meglio in maschera.

A themed party, best if people have to wear a costume. You could also choose an inherent theme, such as "Alice in Wonderland", to use the imagery of the White Rabbit and his watch, or, even better, an "imaginary future" theme, where everyone dresses imagining how will their future (or that of the world) be. Unfortunately my friends hate masquerade parties, so it is very unlikely that we will do such a thing.

Dopo mezzanotte, lenticchie e cotechino.

Leftovers dinner. Everyone keeps long-life leftovers, maybe some fancy ones, from the previous binges and brings them to form much of the New Year's Eve dinner. This eliminates leftovers and symbolically consumes the remainderss of the past year. After midnight, lentils and cotechino.

Fuochi d'artificio.

Fireworks. I love fireworks, but I didn't see them on New Year's Eve for years, so I usuallywander like a madwoman distributing sparklers. I'd like to watch a good show of this kind, but for the animals welfare they are being banned everywhere, so it's becoming increasingly difficult.

Come celebrerete quest'anno? E come vi piacerebbe celebrare?

In a foreign capital (or at least in a different city). This year, with the new year near the weekend, would have been the right one to go on a trip. I would love to spend New Year's Eve in a foreign capital (for this occasion my favourite locations are Prague, Tallinn and St. Petersburg, but there are many others). Even in Italy there are many beautiful cities that I haven't visited yet. The problem is that in this period the prices are super high and that my boyfriend has very few holidays, that he prefers to use to go skiing.

Reading the Wikipedia article about New Year's Eve, I discovered in the world there are a lot of different traditions to celebrate it. Is there some particular tradition for New Year where you live?
How will you celebrate this year? And how would you like to celebrate?

Happy new year, hon! Your NYE plans don't sound boring at all to me, they sound great (I'm just having a quiet one this year, 2015 was exciting enough, lol) :D Spending it with people you love is the best possible plan. Actually, I was talking with Misha about going to Prague for next New Year, haha! I doubt it will actually happen, though :P

(Also, you got Game Night for Christmas?! I can't wait to see what you think, I hope you like it!)

Happy new year! Your blog is one of my favourites, thank you for sharing your craft projects, reviews, fashions, etc. I find them very inspiring.

As for new year celebrations, I think here in Australia we're very similar to most countries, with drinking and fireworks. There aren't any traditions about food as it's usually very hot here and people don't feel like eating a lot. Normally I stay home and watch the K-pop special on TV. This year we had gourmet ice creams with various toppings, which was fun.

I hope all of your wishes come true in 2016 !
xx Katie
