Descendants

"Descendants" è un film Disney del 2015 prodotto per Disney Channel. Si tratta di un musical diretto e coreografato da Kenny Ortega (il regista di "High School Musical"), per cui è previsto un seguito a breve. Dal film sono stati tratti vari libri, la miniserie prequel "Descendants: School of Secrets" e uno spin off animato "Descendats: Wicked Word" di 18 puntate.
Dell'incredibile bruttezza di questo film avevano già parlato Acalia di Prevalentemente anime e manga qui e la Bolla di Il Bollalmanacco di cinema qui, ma imprudentemente ho voluto provarlo di persona (ammetto che speravo che fosse così brutto da essere involontariamente comico, ma non riesce nemmeno in questo).
La trama: la Bella e la Bestia, tornato umano, hanno unificato tutti i regni sotto il loro dominio e tutti i cattivi delle favole sono stati esiliati in un'isola, molto simile ad una favela, da cui è impossibile scappare e su cui non si può usare la magia. Passano 20 anni. Il figlio dei sovrani, Benjamin, sta per essere incoronato re a soli 16 anni. I genitori, per quanto perplessi, prima dell'incoronazione gli concedono di emanare un decreto che permetta ai figli di quattro cattivi esiliati sull'isola di frequentare la scuola per ricchi dove studiano i figli dei buoni delle favole, perché secondo lui i figli non devono pagare per i crimini dei genitori.
La scelta (casuale) ricade su Mal, la figlia di Malefica, Jay, il figlio di Jafar, Evie, la figlia della regina cattiva di Biancaneve e Carlos, il figlio di Crudelia de Mon.
Malefica ne approfitta per ordire un piano per cui i quattro ragazzi dovranno rubare la bacchetta della fata madrina, preside della scuola, per spezzare l'incantesimo che tiene i cattivi sull'isola e permettere loro di conquistare il mondo. Ovviamente le cose non andranno come previsto.
C'è talmente tanto di sbagliato in questo film che è difficile anche decidere da dove incominciare. Forse vale la pena partire dal concetto più importante, la lotta fra il bene e il male. I cattivi non sono cattivi e i buoni non sono buoni. I cattivi delle storie Disney sono ridotti a macchiette imbarazzanti delle loro controparti animate, fra la deficienza e la devastazione psicologica. In più la loro malvagità si esplicita praticamente solo nell'essere cattivi genitori e in piani sgangherati per conquistare il mondo. I loro figli, che si proclamano eredi di cotanta malvagità, sono delinquentelli da strapazzo, che rubano lecca lecca ai bambini, scrivono sui muri e commettono furtarelli, niente di strano visto che sono stati allevati da degli psicopatici e cresciuti nelle slum. Appena cambiano ambiente e vanno nella scuola per ricconi, si convertono al "bene" appena provano cioccolato e fragole (che sull'isola non ci sono), videogiochi, popolarità e le attenzioni di qualche membro attraente dell'altro sesso (ovviamente sono tutti etero, che va bene inquadrare ripetutamente una ragazzina in sedia a rotelle per coinvolgere i diversamente abili e fare apparire personaggi delle etnie più improbabili, ma l'omosessualità è ancora tabù).
Passiamo all'altro lato. I cosiddetti buoni rinchiudono tutti i cattivi su di un'isola senza magia, indipendentemente dal crimine commesso, e lasciano che i loro figli innocenti crescano lì, in una sorta di baraccopoli priva di confort. A scuola reiterano i tipici meccanismi di bullismo, popolarità, emarginazione, pettegolezzo e così via dei licei americani. Il superbuono principe Benjamin scarica la sua ragazza con la prima scusa senza pensarci due volte. Il figlio di Cenerentola è uno stronzo colossale. La figlia di Aurora pure. La magia esiste ma non va usata se no sarebbe tutto troppo facile (e io mi chiedo: ma la ragazza in sedia a rotelle? E se potesse guarire con la magia?).
Insomma, tanta bontà io non la vedo. Peraltro l'unico modo in cui viene definita la bontà nel film è tramite le imbarazzanti lezioni in classe separata che vengono date ai figli dei cattivi, cose in stile "lanci il bambino nel burrone o lo salvi?".
Ecco, un altro grosso problema del film è che con la sua piattezza (sia per quanto riguarda la trama, sia per i personaggi tagliati con l'accetta) tratta gli spettatori come se fossero degli idioti, che è una cosa che non sopporto. Se non lo fa la maggior parte dei cartoni Disney per un pubblico di bambini, tanto più non vedo il motivo per cui dovrebbe farlo un film per adolescenti.
Ma andiamo avanti. Un altro punto debole del film è lo scontro finale totalmente ridicolo. D'accordo non voler sconvolgere il pubblico giovane con del sangue, ma così è troppo (e mi fermo per non fare spoiler). In aggiunta a questo, la protagonista non sa fare niente (a parte le scritte sui muri), la sua unica abilità consiste nel leggere incantesimi dal libro di sua madre. L'unica fra i protagonisti che ha qualche capacità è Evie, a cui però piace fingersi scema perché si rimorchia di più.
Oltre a questi notevoli problemi ce ne sono altri minori, ma altrettanto fastidiosi. Per esempio, perché tutti i figli dei cattivi hanno un unico genitore? Va bene volerli caratterizzare, va bene fare vedere che i genitori single esistono, ma così sembra proprio che i cattivi si siano riprodotti per mitosi.
L'altro problema sono i costumi. Si tratta di un film per la tv, però è sempre Disney, avrebbero potuto spendere due soldi per delle corone che non fossero visibilmente dei patacconi di plastica o per una computer grafica che non sembrasse disegnata a pennarellone! A volte però non si tratta di budget, ma di semplice cattivo gusto, come per quanto riguarda vestiti e capelli di Carlos.
Mi ha un po' disturbato anche il racconto di Mulan che fa i biscotti con le gocce di cioccolato: la diversità etnica va bene, ma culturalmente tutti statunitensi? Ma poi mi sono placata e ho pensato che magari a Mulan piace il cibo esotico.
Visto che "Descendants" è un musical sarebbe bello e opportuno spendere qualche parola anche su musiche, canzoni e balletti, ma in proposito sono davvero incompetente. Posso solo dire che c'era una tendenza generale all'hip hop, sdoganato anche nella scuola per ricchi, e che la maggior parte delle canzoni era quantomeno orecchiabile, tranne la terribile versione (appunto) hip hop di "Be our guest".
In sostanza di questo film, pur sentendomi una milfona nel farlo, promuovo solo Booboo Stewart (Jay), che con tutti quei muscoli e quei capelli mi ha provocato rivoletti di bava anche recitando la parte dell'imbecille.

"Descendants" is a 2015 Disney film produced for Disney Channel. It is a musical directed and choreographed by Kenny Ortega (also director of "High School Musical"). A sequel will be released soon. The film was adapted in several books, has a prequel miniseries "Descendants: School of Secrets" and an animated spin off "Descendats: Wicked Word" consisting of 18 episodes.
I already heard of the incredible abomination of this film through various reviews, but I imprudently wanted to try it on my skin (I admit that I was hoping that it was so bad as to be unintentionally funny, but it fails even in this).
The plot: The Beauty and the Beast, human again, unified the kingdoms under their rule, and all the fairytale villains were exiled to an island, very similar to a favela, from which it is impossible to escape and on they can't use magic. After 20 years, Benjamin, the son of the king and queen, is about to be crowned king at the age of 16. His parents, though perplexed, before the coronation grant him to issue a decree that allows the children of four evil people exiled on the island to attend the rich people school where the children of the good people of the fairy tales study, because according to him the children don't have to pay for their parents' crimes.
The (random) choice falls on Mal, daughter of Maleficent, Jay, son of Jafar, Evie, daughter of Snow White's evil queen and Carlos, son of Cruella de Mon.
Maleficent takes the opportunity to plot a plan according to which the four teens have to steal the wand of the fairy godmother, who is the school principal, to break the spell that keeps the bad guys on the island and allow them to conquer the world. Of course things don't go as planned.
There is so much wrong with this film that is difficult to decide where to begin. Perhaps it is worth to start with the most important concept, the struggle between good and evil. The bad guys are not bad and the good ones are not good. The villains of the Disney stories are reduced to embarrassing caricatures of their animated counterparts, between idiocy and psychological devastation. In addition, their wickedness consusts practically only in being bad parents and stupid plans to conquer the world. Their children, who call themselves the heirs of so much evil, are troublemakers, who steal lollipops to children, write on the walls and commit petty thefts, nothing strange considering that they have been raised by psychopaths in the slums. Just changing environment and finding themselves in a school for rich people, they are converted to the "good" just by chocolate and strawberries (that there aren't on the island), video games, popularity and the attention of some attractive member of the opposite sex (of course they are all hetero. It is fine repeatedly showing a girl in a wheel chair to involve disabled people and to bring up the most improbable etnies, but homosexuality is still a taboo).
Let's pass to the other side. The so-called good people imprison all the bad on an island without magic, regardless of the crime committed, and let their innocent children grow there, in a sort of slum without any comfort. At school their children reiterate the typical mechanisms of bullying, popularity, exclusion, gossip and so on of U.S.A. high schools. The "good" Prince Benjamin frees himself of his girlfriend with the first excuse, without thinking about it twice. Cinderella's son is a colossal asshole, like the daughter of Aurora. Magic exists but should not be used otherwise everything would be too easy (and I wonder about the girl in the wheelchair? And what if she could be healed with magic?).
In short, I don't see so much goodness. However, the only way in which goodness is defined in the film is through the embarrassing separate class lessons given to the evil people's children like "do you trow the baby in the gully or save him?".
Another big problem of the film is that with its flatness (both in terms of  plot and of the characters that are cut with a hatchet) it treats the audience as it was composed of idiots, that is one thing I can not stand. If most of the Disney films for an audience of children don't do it, I don't see why a movie for teenagers should do it.
But let's move on. Another weak point of the film is the totally ridiculous final showdown. It's okay not wanting to upset the young audience with blood, but this is too much (and I'll stop here to avoid spoilers). In addition to this, the main character can not do anything (apart from the graffiti on the walls), her only skill lies in reading spells from her mother's book. The only one of the protagonists who has some abilities is Evie, who, however, likes to pretend to be stupid because she wants to attract more boys.
In addition to these major problems, there are other smaller, but just as annoying, ones. For example, why all the "evil" protagonists have a single parent? Is it okay to want to characterize them, it's okay to show that single parents exist, but like this it seems like the bad guys reproduced themseves by mitosis.
The other problem is that of the costumes. It is a TV movie, but it's still Disney, I thought they may have had some money to spend for crowns that were not cheaply made of plastic for a computer graphics that did not seem drawn with a marker! But sometimes it is not a budget problem, but simply bad taste, as for Carlos' clothes and hair.
The story about Mulan story that makes chocolate chips cookies bothered me a but: skintone diversity is fine, but the only culture available is that of the U.S.A.? But then I calmed down and I thought that maybe Mulan likes exotic food.
Since "Descendants" is a musical, it would be nice and appropriate to say a few words about the music, songs and dances, but I'm really incompetent about these topics. I can only say that there was a general hip hop tendency, also in the rich school setting, and that most of the songs were at least catchy, except the terrible (in fact) hip hop version of "Be our guest".
Essentially, of this film, despite feeling a milf in doing so, I pass only Booboo Stewart (Jay), who, with all those muscles and that hair, caused me aboundant drooling despite his character was really dumb.
