Heroes Reborn

"Heroes Reborn" is a 2015 TV series consisting of 13 episodes of 45 minutes each. It's the follow up of "Heroes", a series that lasted four seasons, from 2006 to 2010, based on the idea of an evolution of the human race that allowed some people to develop special powers: flight, cell reproduction, super strength, and so on. It'sa premise similar to that of the X-Men by Marvel, but developed in a different way: in fact the protagonists of the series are not united in a group of superheroes fighting crime, but they are ordinary people who find themselves with the burden of saving the world.
"Heroes Reborn" is independent from "Heroes", but they have some characters in common and to a better understanding I think it would be better to have watched at least the first season of the previous series.
This is the plot: in Odessa there was a convenction to foster peace between normal humans and people with special powers, which ended in tragedy because it was the site of an attack claimed by the evolved humans. Following this incident, people with powers began to be discriminated and subjected to heavy government control. So many of them try to hide their differences.
The new protagonists are Luke and Joanne, a couple who kills mutant humans to avenge their son who died in Odessa, Tommy, a boy with powers on the run with his mother, Miko and Ren, two Japanese whose destinies are linked by a mysterious game, Carlos Gutierrez, a war hero, Quentin Frady, a conspiracy freack searching for his kidnapped sister and Malina, a girl on a quest to save the world. Apart from these, there are several other minor characters, as well as some characters already seen in "Heroes", first of all Noah Bennet, the father of the cheerleader of the first series, whose memory the events of Odessa has been erased.
I am partial to settings in which people with super powers are persecuted because thy are different, and at the beginning I loved "Heroes", but it got worse and worse and around the third season I dropped it, so I was afraid I would not like this follow up. Instead I found it exciting and well done; albeit it contains some ingenuities, it has the freshness of the ideas of the first season of the previous series and it manages to create quite credible situations and a coherent plot. Too bad that after finishing the story, the writers created an open ending with the beginning of a new enigma, because it seems that there won't be a second season.
