Avatar - La Leggenda di Aang/Avatar: The Last Airbender

A me è piaciuta tantissimo e la consiglio assolutamente.

"Avatar: The Last Airbender" is an U.S.A animated series consisting of three seasons, aired from 2005 to 2008, the first two consisting of 20 episodes and the last of 21 of 24 minutes each. "Avatar" won a lot of awards, including an Emmy Award, and had a great international success.
In 2010 the first season was also made into a live action film, "The Last Airbender",  that should be the first of a trilogy, but that recieved a lot of negative comments. There are also various comics and gadgets inspired by the series, and from 2012 to 2014 aired a second series set in the same world, "The Legend of Korra".
The world in which the story is set is divided into four nations that correspond to the four elements: air, water, fire, earth. In each nation there are people, called benders, with the ability to control and manipulate the element of their nation. The setting is inspired by Asia. The greatest influence is China, but the Air Nomads resemble Buddhist monks, the Fire Nation has Japanese elements and the water Nation recalls Inuits. Even the fighting techniques are inspired by an actual martial arts: tai chi for the waterbenders, hung gar style for the earthbenders, the Shaolin style of northern China for  the firebenders and the ba gua zhang style for the airbenders.
A century before the events narrated, the Fire Nation attacked the others, breaking the harmony of the universe. The only one who can restore peace is the avatar, a person with the ability to control all the elements and to communicate with the spirit world, who every generation reincarnates in a different country. However, the Avatar seems to have disappeared from the face of the Earth. The mystery is solved when two teenagers of the Water Nation, Katara and Sokka, sister and brother, find a twelve year old air nomad and his flying bison trapped in an iceberg. Infact he is the avatar, who remained frozen a century before, but never died and never reincarnated. The boy, Aang, is the last survivor of the Air Nomads, exterminated by the Fire Nation, and is the last hope to restore the balance in the world. But Aang only knows airbending and, before facing the Fire Lord, must learn to master the other three elements.
The highlight of this series are the characters, which are marked out well, but not reduced to the flat stereotypes they could have been, and not only are reallyy human despite their powers, but during the series they evolve, overcome prejudices and insecurities, change sides (I in particular love Zuko). The series also gives space to characters who do not have control over the elements. I enjoyed the inclusion of disabled characters that are decidedly strong and often indispensable to the plot.
The design style is clearly inspired by Japanese animation and I found it a very successful experiment, in line with the Asian environment. I especially enjoyed the expressiveness of the characters.
Although the characters are all very young and the series is suitable for children because it doesn't show see blood, limits the violence and there is a good balance between comedy and moments of reflection, I think "Avatar: The Last Airbender" can also be really enjoyed by an adult audience. I loved it and would definitely recommend it.
I saw this series after reading the excellent review of Acalia of  "Prevalentemente Anime e Manga" ("Mostly Anime and Manga"), who I thank again for the suggestion.
