GarbenFantasy

The weekend April 8 and 9 was held GarbenFantasy, a medieval/fantasy two-day event, in Garbagnate Milanese, near Milan.
I went mainly to receive the prize of the Tolkien inspired comic contest organized by Compagnia de' Viaggiatori in Arme in collaboration with Wow Spazio Fumetto, the comics museum of Milan.
The event was quite small, with various stand (from the usual "themed" jewelery to birds of prey and buffalo mozzarella) and activities (the medieval fencing lessons for children for 1€ and the illumination course organized by Compagnia de' Viaggiatori in Arme seemed particularly good).

I saw the medieval parade, followed by Star Wars, Harry Potter and steampunk parades. I was impressed by the extras with birds of prey by "Amici dei rapaci" and those with the greyhounds of "Petali di Luce".

There were also small exhibitions in a covered pavilion: "The Machines of Leonardo Da Vinci", by Paolo Candusso, was quite nice.

The one I liked most, however, was "Hand to hand weapons from 1300 to the present" by Roberto Gobetti, not so much because of the quantity and variety of the weapons, but for their peculiarity, and especially because the curator was very kind and explained the weapons accurately, giving us lots of interesting information (I didn't even know that beidana existed, which are modified sickles used by Italian Waldensian as weapons).
In short, a very small, but nice event. I don't know if it's worth going there on purpose, but if you happen to be nearby my advice is to give it a go.
