"Dirk Gently - Agenzia di investigazione olistica" (Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency) è una serie televisiva statunitense creata da Max Landis per BBC America e basata sul protagonista dell'omonima saga di romanzi di Douglas Adams (diventato famoso con "Guida galattica per gli autostoppisti").
Al momento la serie è costituita da due stagioni da 8 e 10 episodi di 45-54 minuti ciascuno.
Dirk Gently è convinto che ogni cosa sia interconnessa e quindi, essendo un detective, segue questa convinzione anche nelle sue indagini, seguendo piste apparentemente assurde o insignificanti per la risoluzione dei suoi casi.
Io sono una grande fan di Adams e naturalmente ho letto anche i romanzi dedicati a questo personaggio, quindi trovo difficile giudicare questa serie prescindendo dall'opera originale.
La trama della prima stagione non è tratta dai lavori di Adams, ma è completamente originale e si colloca idealmente dopo le indagini cartacee del detective. Nella serie, Dirk si trasferisce da Londra negli U.S.A., dove viene assoldato dal miliardario Patrick Spring per indagare sulla propria morte.
La serie è piuttosto carina: l'assurdità delle interconnessioni richiama i romanzi di Adams e ci sono attori del calibro di Elijah Wood. Tuttavia la tensione inizia a calare quando ci si accorge di indovinare le interconnessioni prima dei protagonisti. Se a questo si aggiunge un tentativo di spiegare l'olismo, terribili discorsi moralisti sull'amicizia e sulla verità e il personaggio di Dirk che dal furbastro dei libri diventa adorabilmente ingenuo, secondo me si ottiene un travisamento tutto statunitense di un'idea incentrata sull'humor inglese.
L'ho trovato un esperimento riuscito a metà se si tiene conto dei romanzi, una serie gialla non male e parecchio originale se si lascia perdere l'opera originale.
Verso la fine ci si accorge che questa prima serie era una sorta di introduzione in cui si raccoglieva il cast per la seconda (il finale, ovviamente, è aperto). Forse la prossima riuscirà ad essere più fedele allo spirito dei libri e ad avere una suspense maggiore, ma più probabilmente no. In ogni caso le darò una possibilità.

Dirk Gently is convinced that everything is interconnected and, being a detective, he follows this belief even in his investigations, following apparently absurd or insignificant leads for the resolution of his cases.
I am a big fan of Adams and of course I also read the novels dedicated to this character, so I find hard to judge this series not taking in consideration the original work.
The plot of the first season is not drawn from Adams' work, but it is completely original and is ideally  set after the novels. In the series, Dirk moves from London to the U.S.A., where he is hired by the billionaire Patrick Spring to investigate his death.
The series is kinda nice: the absurdity of the interconnections recalls the novels by Adams and there are great actors like Elijah Wood. However, the tension starts to drop when you realize you con guess the interconnections before the protagonists. If you add to this an attempt to explain holism, horrible moralist speeches about friendship and truth and the character of Dirk that from the almost scoundrel of the books becomes adorably naive, I think you get a typically U.S.A. distortion of an idea focused on english humor.
I found it a half successful experiment if you take into account the novels, a not bad and quite original mistery if you forget the original works.
Towards the end, I realized that this first series was a kind of introduction in which is gathered the cast for the second (the ending, of course, is open). Maybe the next one will be more faithful to the spirit of the books and have a greater suspense, but most likely not. In any case I will give it a possibility.
