I tecnici del parco aggiornano continuamente i robot per renderli più realistici, ma, in seguito ad uno di questi upgrade, questi iniziano a comportarsi in modo strano...
La serie è corale, ma, con il procedere delle puntate, si focalizza su alcuni personaggi: Robert Ford, direttore creativo del parco, il capo programmatore Bernard, un crudele ospite del parco sempre vestito di nero, il giovane e ingenuo ospite William, gli androidi Dolores, Maeve, Teddy.
"Westworld" è una serie meravigliosa, una delle migliori degli ultimi anni.
Per prima cosa la trama riesce a mostrare senza spiegare, lasciando che sia lo spettatore a trarre le conclusioni. Nonostante ci siano moltissimi colpi di scena, sono sempre coerenti e spesso preannunciati da una serie di piccoli indizi (che hanno fatto scatenare i fandom su internet). Parte quasi come un thriller psicologico (infatti c'è chi ha trovato l'inizio un po' lento), ma con il procedere delle puntate c'è sempre più azione, anche se al centro della narrazione rimangono una serie di enigmi che i vari personaggi tentano di risolvere dai loro diversi punti di vista. In questo stile di narrazione ha un ruolo importantissimo lo stile di regia, davvero ben fatto. Infatti, pur con tanti personaggi ed una trama complicata, la serie risulta inaspettatamente semplice da capire per lo spettatore.
La recitazione è fantastica, d'altronde nel cast ci sono nomi del calibro di Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, ed Ed Harris. Anche fotografia e costumi sono molto belli (pare che siano ispirati agli abiti usati nel West fra il 1850 e il 1890 e che quelli degli attori principali siano filati, cuciti e tinti a mano), e le musiche, composte da Ramin Djawadi, rendono perfettamente l'atmosfera.
Le puntate non sono autoconclusive e anzi spesso e volentieri terminano con un colpo di scena. Credo che si potrebbero vedere senza problemi tutte di seguito come se fossero un lunghissimo film.
Il finale porta ad una soluzione gli enigmi della prima stagione, ma in realtà rimane molto aperto. Sicuramente è stato ideato pensando alla seconda stagione (che probabilmente uscirà solo nel 2018 per una questione di costi e di tempi di sceneggiatura). Pare che autori e produttori abbiano progettato una lunghezza complessiva di cinque stagioni.
L'ho trovata una serie stupenda, assolutamente da vedere.
N.B. Visto l'alto contenuto violenza sia fisica sia psicologica, l'atmosfera inquietante e le scene di sesso la sconsiglio ai bambini.

The series is choral, but, with the progress of the episodes, it focuses on some characters: Robert Ford, the creative director of the park, the head programmer Bernard, a cruel guest of the park always dressed in black, the young and naive guest William, the androids Dolores, Maeve, Teddy.

To start, the plot manages to show without explaining, leaving the viewer to draw his conclusions. Although there are many twists and turns, they are always consistent and often heralded by a series of small clues (which unleashed the fandom on the internet). It starts almost like a psychological thriller (in fact some found the beginning a bit too slow), but going on there is more and more action, even if the center of the narration remain a series of puzzles that the various characters try to solve from their different points of view. In this narrative style, the directing style, really well done, has a very important role. In fact, even with many characters and a complex storyline, the series is surprisingly simple to understand for the viewer.
The acting is fantastic, indeed in the cast are the likes of Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, and Ed Harris. Even the photography and costumes are really beautiful (they are inspired by the clothing used in the West between 1850 and 1890 and those of the major characters are spun, sewn and dyed by hand), and the music, composed by Ramin Djawadi, is perfect to create the atmosphere.
The episodes aren't self contained and indeed often end with a twist. I think you could whatch them all toghether as a long film.
The end leads to a solution of the puzzles of the season, but in fact the story remains open. Surely it was written like this thinking about the second season (which probably will be released only in 2018 because of the costs and of the screenwriting times). It seems that writers and producers tought of a total length of five seasons.
I found it a wonderful series, a must see.
N.B. Given the high content of violence, both physical and psychological, the eerie atmosphere and the sex scenes I do not recommend it for children.
