"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" è un film del 2016 diretto da Gareth Edwards e scritto da Chris Weitz e Tony Gilroy a partire da un'idea di John Knoll. E' il primo della serie di film "Star Wars Anthology", che dovrebbero raccontare storie a sé stanti ambientate nell'universo di "Guerre stellari". Il film è prodotto dalla Lucasfilm e distribuito dalla Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
La trama si situa poco prima degli eventi di "Una nuova speranza", ed è incentrata su un gruppo di spie ribelli in missione per rubare i piani della nuova arma dell'Impero Galattico, la Morte Nera.
La protagonista è Jyn, figlia di uno degli scienziati chiave del progetto "Morte Nera", che ha passato gran parte della sua vita a fuggire, ma viene coinvolta suo malgrado nei piani della resistenza.
Fanno brevi apparizioni anche personaggi della prima trilogia, fra cui un Governatore Tarkin realizzato in una CGI terrificante.
Nonostante non manchino i momenti WTF, il film funziona molto meglio di altri capitoli di Star Wars e riesce nel difficile compito di inserirsi senza problemi nella saga. Musiche, atmosfere, e narrazione sono coerenti con l'universo creato da Lucas e "Rogue One" addirittura rimedia ad un punto debole della trilogia principale. La trama, incredibilmente -dati i precedenti- non ha buchi o incongruenze davvero rilevanti. I personaggi hanno delle motivazioni sensate, per quanto alcune non solidissime. I dialoghi, anche se non all'altezza della trilogia degli anni '70-'80, sono molto superiori a quelli dei film successivi.
Quello che mi è piaciuto di più di "Rogue One", però, sono state le ambientazioni, che finalmente escono dai canonici deserto-ghiaccio-foresta, giocando su rovine di civiltà passate con riferimenti a India, Arabia e centro America.
Tuttavia non sono uscita dal cinema del tutto soddisfatta. Forse scrivo con delle impressioni troppo fresche, perché nemmeno io riesco a spiegare esattamente il motivo. Sicuramente non è facile immedesimarsi con i personaggi e provare empatia per loro. La trama poi si inserisce in un discorso che non c'era davvero necessità di ampliare. Insomma, ho l'impressione che di questo film mi sia rimasto molto poco. Gli amici con cui l'ho visto invece l'hanno apprezzato e alcuni erano addirittura entusiasti.

The plot is set just before the events of "A New Hope", and centers on a group of rebel spies on a mission to steal the plans of the Galactic Empire's new weapon, the Death Star.
The protagonist is Jyn, daughter of one of the key scientists of the "Death Star" project, who has spent much of her life on the run, but gets involved with the resistance against her will.
Some characters of the first trilogy make brief appearances , including a Governor Tarkin made using a terrible CGI.
Despite it doesn't lack WTF moments, the film works much better than other Star Wars chapters and succeeds in the difficult task of entering the saga smoothly. The music, atmosphere, and narration are consistent with the universe created by Lucas and "Rogue One" even makes up a weak point of the main trilogy. The plot, unbelievably -looking at the previous films- has no holes or really relevant inconsistencies. The characters have sensible, even if not really solid, motivations. The dialogues, though not up to these of the 70s and 80s trilogy, are much better than those of the later films.
What I liked the most of "Rogue One", however, were the locations, which finally abandon the canonical desert-ice-forest, playing on the ruins of past civilizations with references to India, Arabia and Central America.
However I didn't leave the cinema completely satisfied. Maybe I write with too fresh impressions, because even I can not explain exactly why. Surely it is not easy to identify with the characters and feel empathy for them. And the plot is part of a narration that there was really no need to expand. In short, I feel that this movie left me very little. The friends with whom I watched the film, instead, appreciated it and some were even enthusiastic.

Sì, al di là che il film non mi abbia lasciato chissà che, almeno ora c'è la speranza buoni dialgoghi, motivazioni sensate, pochi buchi di trama, nuovi paesaggi e così via anche nella serie principale. Speriamo davvero!
