This year I went for the first time to Albenga’s Middle Ages festival. Albenga is a city that is really suitable for this sort of events as its historical centre is full of beautiful ancient buildings. The festival was set there and the area was divided in quarters by colourful banners.

There was a lot of people that made it difficult to watch the shows, that were nice, but not of a high level. As a friend who was with me said, these kind of Middle Ages competitions are only contests between the young people of the oratory of the various churches.

On the streets there were areas dedicated to the ancient works. I asked for some advice in the one dedicated to natural dyeing, but my favourite was the one dedicated to birds of prey.

Io ho mangiato, pane salvia e cipolle fritti.

As for the food, there were a lot of stalls selling warm and cold dishes, so, walking a bit, there was some choice even if many stalls sold the same things.
I was a bit disappointed that there weren’t Middle Ages foods: apart from the ancient style names were sold pretty common things like fried fish, hamburgers and so on.
I ate fried bread, onions and sage.
