Viaggio di nozze in cina: 12 giugno, Shanghai/Honeymoon in China: 12th of June, Shanghai

Ultimo giorno in Cina!

Last day in China!
I wanted to have breakfast in the restaurant at the corner of Ningbo and Henan Road, but for some reason, even if it is open, nobody needs it. We try a nearby restaurant of the chain Yang's Dumplings, and it's a delightful surprise: they are soup dumplings fried on one side! And they're really cheap. We try the mix with two shrimps, two meat and two vegetables dumplings. They are delicious! I kick myself for having eaten in not particularly fascinating places at Hongquiao Station, as there was also a Yang's restaurant.

In the morning, we go to Jade Buddha Temple, Shanghai's most famous temple (20 CNY). It was founded around two precious Buddha jade statues, one that depicts him sitting and the other lying down. The present temple is quite recent, but its style is traditional. The atmosphere is very relaxed. I was especially impressed by people burning letters and incense into a brazier.

I decided that on the last day in Shanghai I want to eat the favorite dish of Mao Zedong, Hong Shao Rou, fat meat of pork or beef, braised for a long time in a sauce of sugar, vinegar, star anise, soy and ginger until it assumes the typical red color and becomes very tender.
After several searches and a lot of time, the only place we find is Shanghai Min in Xintiandi, in 338 ZiZhong Road, which is part of a chain, but is still luxurious and consequently very expensive.

We take good, but not memorable shrimps, a delicious duck appetizer and, of course, the Hong Shao Rou. When they take it to us we discover that... that's exactly the meat we ate in Nanjing! I'm disappointed, but still it is really good, definitely more than in the self service where we tried it.
We spend a lot, 398 CNY.

In the mall where the restaurant is located there is a supermarket that sells Chinese and foreign products and we buy a lot of tea to take home.

Since it is late to make cultural visits, in the afternoon I drag the Hairy Half to the malls under People's Square.

There are Hong Kong and Korean malls. From what I had read, they had to have lower prices than normal Chinese clothing stores, but it was not true. But they were full of lolita stores.
The only store where I did purchases was Mumuso, a kind of Korean alternative to Miniso. I bought a Totoro pelouche (with a tie to avoid paying the copyright, I suppose), a make up bag with forest animals, a powder green bag and two pairs of socks with squirrels paying 103 CNY.

At this point it's time to go back and pick up the suitcases and go to the airport. We decide to do it taking the Maglev, the super fast magnetic levitation train, the only one in the world. Showing our plane tickets we pay the 40 CNY ticket. In fact are a little disappointed because the trip did not seem really particular to us except for the inclination of the train.

Andando in aeroporto vediamo l'ennesimo manifesto ecologista.

Going to the airport we see another ecologist poster. We have an idea of China as a gray country taken in an hectic technological race, but it is in a phase of quick change. Almost all the motorbikes are already electric (and there are so many of them!), I think that China will soon overtake Europe even from the point of view of environment.

At the airport we share a wanton soup and dumplings at Tan Xia Dumplings, very abundant portions and not bad at all. We pay our last Chinese dinner 116 CNY.

We spend the last money to buy two cookies and a honey and pomelo drink. A long trip is waiting for us and afterwards... a week at the seaside.
We salute China, hoping to return to this beautiful country in the future.
